Always enjoyed seeing these two finish big races and watch short video clips of them. What a great inspiration.
🌐Boston Marathon legend Dick Hoyt passed away on Wednesday morning March 17th at the age of 80. Dick and his son, Rick, became Boston Marathon legends after their first run in 1980, during which Dick pushed Rick in a custom racing chair. The two completed a total of 32 Boston Marathons together, including a final finish in 2014. The legacy of the father-son duo began in Westfield, Massachusetts in 1977 after Rick, a quadriplegic with cerebral palsy, told his father, then a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard’s 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Regional Airport, he wanted to participate in a 5-mile run to benefit a lacrosse player who had been paralyzed in an accident. Known as “Team Hoyt”, they competed together in various athletic endeavors, including marathons and Ironman Triathlons. During competition, Dick pulled Rick in a special boat as they would swim, carried him in a special seat in the front of a bicycle, and pushed him in a special wheelchair as they ran. Team Hoyt were inducted to the Ironman Hall of Fame and were recipients of ESPN's Jimmy V Award.🌐
