There are a few we’ve listed on iDive New England if we’ve peaked your curiosity. Also Waterfront diving is located right on Lake Champlain and they have regularly scheduled charters! 👏🏼

LION'S MANE JELLYFISH

A common sight in New England waters right now so let's learn more about them!

One of the world's largest jellyfish species, this beautiful translucent reddish brown jelly lives up to its name with a literal mane of stinging te****les!!

Found across the northern hemisphere and restricted to colder waters, these jellies are found in the Arctic, northern Pacific & Atlantic oceans plus the North and Baltic seas.

Their bells commonly reach about 1 meter (~3ft) in diameter with the largest recorded specimen measured off the coast of Massachusetts in 1865 with a bell with a diameter of 2.1 m (7ft) and te****les around 36.6 m (120 ft) long!!!

They have 8 lobes with each lobe containing ~150 te****les! You will definitely get a good sting coming in contact with them!! The most common way people get stung is by rouge, broken off te****le floating around the ocean with nematocyst still ready to fire off! Sneak attack!!!

Lion's mane jellies feed on tiny crustaceans, zooplankton, small fishes, and moon jellies! They descend on them from above trapping them in their web of te****les!!

Surprisingly some fishies are immune to their stinging cells and use lion's mane jellies as a safe hangout spot, allowing them to avoid larger predators!!

Our social media is going to look a bit different soon! We are so so so excited to bring on Corinne Klein to the iDive New England team!

Corinne is a marine biologist, an avid scuba diver and a lover of nudibranchs! Pursuing a career in marine biology has led her to working, studying, and diving in some incredible places like the Bering Sea of Alaska, Trinidad & Tobago, Costa Rica, Ghana, Tanzania, and New Zealand. Most recently, Corinne spent the last 7 years living and diving in Japan. Wow!
Corinne now resides in Maine and has been diving regularly with some of the iDive team and iDive spotlights, like Lana and Dave.

We’re so excited to have you, Corinne! Welcome to the team!
