Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the first responders and ordinary citizens who demonstrated extraordinary courage in our nation’s darkest hours.

Twenty-five years later, may we never forget not only the tragedy of that day, but the way Americans came together in the days that followed—with compassion, courage, kindness, and service to one another.

As Rotarians, we believe deeply in Service Above Self. Today, we honor their memory by continuing to serve, care for our neighbors, and strengthen the communities we call home.

Did you know today is International Day of Charity!? ❤️🌎

It’s a day that celebrates something Rotarians know well: service doesn’t just change communities—it connects people. It brings together neighbors, businesses, friends, and organizations around a shared purpose and reminds us how much good can happen when people simply choose to help people.

We have a pretty exciting opportunity to do just that! 🚗💨

On Saturday, October 17, Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary is hosting our 2nd Annual Gears & Gratitude, benefiting Olive Crest and the incredible young people they serve. Last year, together, we raised $60,000. This year, we’re dreaming even bigger with a goal of $100,000—helping furnish three Olive Crest housing units and supporting young adults through trade school, mentorship, employment opportunities, and pathways toward successful futures.

Come spend the afternoon with us at The Barn in Yorba Linda for classic cars, a live band, great food, an open hosted bar, auction, blackjack, slot car races, wine pull—and most importantly, a whole lot of people coming together for a great cause. ❤️

Because when a community shows up for its young people, we’re doing more than raising money. We’re creating opportunity. We’re building relationships. We’re giving hope. That’s what service is all about!

Last Tuesday, Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary joined Olive Crest for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of 16 new two-bedroom apartment homes in Orange County, built for teens and young adults aging out of the child welfare system.

Standing inside the unit our club sponsored was a reminder of what this work is really about. Young people leaving foster care often face that transition with no safety net. These homes change that.

Earlier this year, we donated $117,915.66, through a $60,000 contribution from our club and the remainder raised from our Gears and Gratitude fundraiser, to fund and sponsor the build of one of the 16 homes.

Thank you to Olive Crest for the partnership, and to every sponsor, supporter, and volunteer who made Gears and Gratitude possible. This is what happens when a community shows up!!!!

💙 Rotary Relationships = Community Impact 💛

One of the very best parts of Rotary is the relationships we build along the way. We get to know incredible people and organizations doing meaningful work in our community—and then we get the privilege of finding ways to come alongside them and help.

Our friends at HIS-OC are a wonderful example! We are so excited to join them for their upcoming Open House celebrating one year of ownership of the HIS-OC Family CareCenter, a 63-bed emergency family shelter providing hope, safety, and stability to families experiencing homelessness—many of them children.

For Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary, this is what community partnership looks like. It’s showing up. It’s learning about the needs around us. It’s building friendships with people who care deeply about serving others—and then asking, “How can we help?”

Last week, the Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club was honored to recognize two outstanding public servants through our annual First Responders of the Year Program.

We proudly presented the Firefighter of the Year Award to Orange County Fire Authority Firefighter Jysiah Davis and the Peace Officer of the Year Award to Orange County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Luis Perez III.

On behalf of our club and the Yorba Linda community, we extend our sincere gratitude to Firefighter Davis and Deputy Perez for their commitment and sacrifice. We are proud to recognize their outstanding contributions and thank all of our first responders who work tirelessly each day to keep our community safe.
