Mel of the Mountains

Mel of the Mountains Brain tanning deer hides is my passion and I love to teach others this valuable skill.

The deer hides I work with have been ethically taken by local hunters who feed their families with the deer meat and I'm lucky enough to carry on the legacy of each deer by turning it into a long lasting fabric that can used to make clothing, shoes, bags, tipis and other goods.

They say laughter is the best medicine… and if that’s true, Melonie and I have definitely overdosed a time or two 😂❤️

I’ve been going through our videos, putting together a compilation of the most ridiculous, unfiltered moments we’ve shared. Through cancer, chemo, exhaustion, fear, and all the unknowns, we’ve still found reasons to laugh—and sometimes that’s what carries you through the heaviest days.

But right now, we need something even stronger than laughter: PRAYERS. 🙏

Mel had a PET scan today and we are praying HARD for good results. Please keep Mel in your thoughts, send love and positive energy her way, and remind her how many people are standing with her. ❤️

We’re also working toward something big—Mel’s bucket-list trip out West. Your donations to her GoFundMe will help make that dream happen.

We don’t know what tomorrow holds, so make sure to laugh louder, love harder, pray bigger, and make the memories.

If you can, please donate. If not, share, pray, and help us get Mel OUT WEST. 🏔️❤️

Come on, PET scan… give us something to celebrate. 🙏

What if a single Uber ride could introduce you to people who would change your life forever?

It’s crazy to think that two complete strangers from two completely different worlds have become such important people in my life.

There’s Nephew CEO—a rapper from St. Louis who welcomed me into his neighborhood, introduced me to his world, and gave me memories I’ll never forget. Then there’s Melonie —a country girl with narcolepsy who can tan hides, make you laugh until you cry, and has become one of my very best friends.

Different backgrounds. Different lifestyles. Same genuine hearts.

In this video, I’m sharing the story of those very first rides together and how simple passengers turned into chosen family.

Over the next several weeks, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite moments with both Nephew CEO and Mel—from hilarious adventures to heartfelt memories, and everything in between.

Life has changed a lot since those first rides. Melonie is now courageously battling stage 4 cancer, and if you could do one thing for me, please keep her in your thoughts, prayers, and send every bit of love and positivity her way. Your encouragement has meant more than you'll ever know.

Soon, the three of us will be together for the very first time making memories, creating content, and capturing moments that I will treasure for a lifetime. I can't wait to share that journey with all of you.

And to Uber… thank you. You gave me more than a way to earn a living. You gave me the opportunity to meet people I never would have crossed paths with otherwise, hear incredible stories, and build friendships that have truly changed my life.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn't the destination—it's the people who unexpectedly become part of your story. ❤️

A Touretter, narcoleptic and rapper walk into a bar … can we get 1000 “READY” comments??

07/17/2026

Before cancer entered the picture, our evening walks were usually with Mel. ❤️

Tonight, chemo left her completely exhausted, so it was just Ken and me taking a walk together. We spent that time reflecting on this journey, the kindness we’ve witnessed, and the incredible generosity so many of you have shown.

Every donation, every prayer, every encouraging message, every share… it all matters more than you’ll ever know. Because of you, Mel and Ken can focus on what matters most—her fight, making memories together, and taking this journey one day at a time.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for carrying a piece of this burden with us. We are so incredibly grateful. ❤️

Continue to keep Mel in your thoughts and prayer 💜💜

Today was the day! I was blessed to be surrounded by family and friends. We started with prayer and then scissors. It took me a while to calm my nerves with the clippers buzzing, but I finally did. I'm not sad. I'm not mad. This is me - for now. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we discovered my head didn't have an alien freakish shape to it! I feel like I'm ready to take on the world in a G.I. Jane kind of way. Watch out cancer, you're days are numbered.

Test driving my first wig! Eyelashes are falling out faster than my hair but it's inevitable. Head getting shaved in 5 days. I've accepted it and looking forward to a new start. I'd rather shave it off on my terms instead of it coming out in clumps in the shower. One round of chemo down. Next one in 4 days. I'm a fighter and not backing down!
