Good friend, Mike Perkins and his grandson, Caleb joined me this morning with the goal of getting Caleb a new PB. His first bass was only 4.5 lbs and then he jumped off a giant bass and missed a couple of bites. The next stop, Caleb hooked into a big one. His new PB is now 7.85 big bass. Mike caught a nice one and also had another big one jump off near the boat. We had several more chances but the overall bite was slower than usual. I think the bass were resting up after the Skeeter boat event.

Whew! PawPaw camp is over. My son, Brandon from Conway AR arrived to pick up grandsons but we made one last trip this morning for a mess of crappie. Brandon and I caught 50 nice crappie and Archer & Fish Guice were our deck hands. I really enjoyed the boys this week and they caught a bunch of big bass and enjoyed a bunch of good food. PawPaw camp is closed and I am back to work tomorrow.

Hometown friends from LA, Jim Gresham and Bill Scott treated another Ringgold LA buddy, Rusty Beard to a big bass catching trip on Lake Fork. The mission today was to get Rusty his PB and try together over 8 lbs. We enjoyed a very cool start this morning with a chilly boat ride but the bite was hit all day. Rusty got one over 7 early and then landed a 8.70 beauty. Everyone caught some good ones today.

Paw Paw camp got started a little late after PawPaw got back from a Dr. appt. Fisher got off to a fast start with a big one in the boat 5 minutes after we started at 10:30. We quickly boated 5 or 6 more and then met MiMi at Jamie’s for lunch. We ended up with 11 big ones today and the boys are not losing as many each day. Hayden is headed home tomorrow and I have a trip and then we will finish up camp Friday after catching some take home crappie.

Well day two of PawPaw camp started with a HUGE breakfast at Jamie’s and man, can these boys put away the groceries!
We started out catching some sandbass and some more crappie and then the boys decided to go check out the big bass again. It didn’t take too long to find a few schools of big hungry bass and the boys again landed some quality largemouths. Mid day rain storms finally ran us off the water shortly after noon and we headed in for another good meal at Jamie’s.

Today was the first full day of PawPaw camp. After a big breakfast at Go Fish we launched around 7:15 and got on the big bass on our first stop. Hayden Carmouche from Castor LA and Archer Guice from Little Rock and Fisher Guice from Conway AR are here for a few days catching fish with PawPaw. We boated some very good bass today and also put enough crappie in the boat for a great fish fry. After a hearty Subway lunch and a quick break at the house, we loaded back up and fished a few more hours in the heat. The Full Moon bite is best mid day and afternoon and we left them biting and headed in for a nice fish fry. Great day with the boys. It will be tough to beat for fun from today but we will try to find that 10 lber tomorrow.

Pawpaw camp started yesterday. Grandsons Fisher and Archer Guice and my brother’s grandson, Hayden are here for a week of fishing with me and we are after anything that swims. Yesterday was a little slow as we went over a whole list of “how to do stuff right!” They caught a few bass, learned to tie knots, put line on reels, get unhung a hundred times and back up a boat trailer. We will be serious about catching bass today.

Michael and Jennifer Roughton and son Matt joined me this morning looking for big bass. Michael and Jennifer made a crappie trip last year and we had a good trip. Well today was a great trip and everyone got into big bass action. After a slow start, we finally got on a roll and put some good uns in the boat. Yesterday was disappointing and my group only boated two bass. Seems like a steady South wind is what made the difference. Another great trip in the books.

Good friend Jim Gresham was back on Fork with me today chasing big bass. Jim made a few trips to JB Thomas recently and fished with Guide Brandon Burkes who put him on several double digit bass. We had a great day on Fork today but none were double digit size but the quality was excellent. The bite was much better today and we saw schools of big bass in several areas. June should be a good time to fish Lake Fork.

I had some excited young boys on the boat this afternoon. Tony Taglavore and Nancy Harner and her three grandsons Cannon Harner and Peyton and Lawson Mosley from Benton LA joined me for an afternoon of catch whatever bites. I had scouted out a big bream bed a couple of days ago and also knew where a bunch of white and yellow bass were holding so I knew what to do. I had three light tackle spinning rods rigged up with corks and all three boys had a fish on as soon as their cork hit the water. It didn’t take them long to learn how to catch bream. We kept around 20 bream and then headed out to catch some sandbass on slabs and everyone caught a lot of fish. The boys learned several ways to catch fish today and they were a pleasure to have on my boat. We caught a bunch but only kept enough for a good fish fry!
