I’ve navigated many reinventions in midlife and know how challenging and confusing those transitional periods can feel.

But I've also discovered that the process of reinventing yourself has natural cycles and patterns, just like the seasonal changes we see in nature.

In my latest article, I share the 4-step "Reinvention Cycle" framework that has helped me flow through times of upheaval with increased clarity and ease.

This cyclical approach provides a roadmap for gracefully metamorphosing into your next most authentic self.

Tune in to my interview on Good Enough For Now Podcast where I share the keys to reinvention that I've learned through my own career and parenting journey.

There are a lot of seasons in life, especially for parents. As your kids grow, you grow as a parent and the time you invest in yourself and your children also changes. This week’s podcast guest, Anne Pillsbury, wanted to go back to work as her children got older and found that her role at work and at home didn’t always fit her vision. Until she did the work and made it happen.

In this episode, Anne shares her journey as she re-entered the workforce and the challenges she felt at home and work through the process. She shares how she stopped trying to solve her kids’ problems and the resilience she saw from them as a result. Anne and I also talk about workplace dynamics as a 40-something, how she defines success, and much more.

Tune in now and listen to the full episode.

Maryann LoRusso is a writer and former magazine editor who is now embarking on a mission to uplift women in midlife and change the conversation around aging—through and newsletter.

After leaving NYC and her career as a magazine editor to focus on her family, MaryAnn became a freelancer writer and editor with much of her work focused on fashion/style industry.

As she hit a certain age she noticed that women over 40 were being left out of the conversation. Simultaneously, she noticed women in their 40’s and 50’s venting that they felt irrelevant.

A lightbulb went off💡and The More Beautiful Project was born.

A midlife pivot does not have to be a career pivot.

Many women make creative pivots launching new projects not necessarily meant to pay the bills but because they fuel personal growth and fulfillment.

, host of , and my guest this week on Pivot on Purpose, is one of these women.

When she lost her sales job just as COVID hit, she panicked at first, but soon realized she had been given the gift of some time to reflect and reassess professionally and personally.

For the first time, Michele had some mental space to think about what qualities were important to her in her next career move beyond position and salary.

She also realized she had a creative itch that wasn't getting scratched.

She started walking and listening to podcasts, a luxury she didn't prioritize as a busy working woman, and was hooked.

Then one day she had the thought, “I want to start a podcast.”

Eleven months later (she started a new job in the process), Asking for A Friend, a podcast dedicated to removing the topics that matter in midlife was launched and has grown to be in the top 5% of podcasts worldwide.

Highlights of this episode:
✔️When we shift our perspective around what success looks like new possibilities and opportunities emerge.
✔️Once you get that vision of the thing that excites and terrifies you know you're on the right track.
✔️How midlife frees us up from caring what other people think which increases our courage to learn and try new things.
✔️How starting a podcast with no experience is like crawling through mud.
✔️One of the unexpected gifts of pivoting is the supportive community you discover.
✔️There will never be a perfect time just do the thing.
✔️Start prioritizing yourself, your growth, and your health now they all contribute to your longevity.
✔️Don't be afraid of change because the worst thing that can happen is that you stay stuck. It's never too late.

Michele Folan was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, she is a 26-year veteran of the health industry, sales leader, coach, mom, wife, and self-professed life-long learner. Her current career is as the Director of Inside Sales for a company based in California and the host of the Asking for a Friend Podcast.

Courageously loving yourself is an act of rebellion. ❤️🤺

In a culture that values youth and beauty above all else, we are bombarded daily with endless messages about “fighting” aging, and how we are becoming invisible in midlife.

We have internalized these lies and become panicked with thoughts like

✅I'm too old
✅I’m irrelevant
✅I’m ugly

This is the voice of the patriarchy within each of us.

And these limiting beliefs keep us from realizing our true potential.

In ancient times older women were the leaders. 💪🏻

They held the power and vision for the community. ✨

The patriarchs who rose in their shadows feared their immense power and created the myth that women who were no longer young and fertile were worthless.

🌟It is time to reclaim our rightful spot as the wisdom holders and vision makers. 🌟

Each day I turn on the news I am reminded of how our world is screaming for a new age.

In order to shift the outer world, we must begin within ourselves.

Choose to courageously love ourselves. 🙏🏻

Shower ourselves with love and compassion, instead of self-criticism and shame.

Give ourselves permission to live our truth, stand strong in our power and generously share our wisdom and gifts.

Midlife is a liminal space of transformation but it does not need to be a time of decline.

I know in my bones that I am here to midwife women through this transition so that they bring the gifts they have to offer to our broken world.

We each have a role to play.

I can help you discover yours.

DM me I’d love to continue this conversation.

💖Would you be interested in getting a day away from it all to slow down, reflect, bond with like-minded women, eat delicious food and have some fun? 💖

✨I’m considering pulling together something like this in March.

Hosting an in-person, deluxe retreat has been on my heart and mind for a few years and it feels like the time is right.

Back in 2021, I watched the show the Lost Kitchen for the first time and found myself just bawling.

Why would I cry at a cooking show about a woman in a small town in Maine?

Well, if you haven’t seen it she creates much more than a meal but a one-of-a-kind experience for the senses. The food is incredible, and it is served with such beauty and love that it’s magical.

Each meal she creates is an expression of love.

And my tears were a clue to me that I had a longing to create something similar.

A space for women to retreat together and be nourished emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

If you’re in the Seattle area and are craving a day of connection, restoration and inspiration drop a 🙋in the comments or send me a DM and I’ll fill you in on the details as they evolve.
