On August 11, 2013, the first ever Long Island Team Sports Olympics will take place at Syosset Woodbury Community Park and The Crest Hollow Country Club. This full day event will involve two teams of ten people competing against each other in ten different sports! The sports include Basketball, Touch Football, Soccer, Softball, Ultimate Frisbee, Relay Race, Tennis, Beach Volleyball, Beach Dodge Ba
ll and Beach Tennis. Once the 20 participants are confirmed, fair teams will be determined by LITSOC (Long Island Team Sports Olympics Committee).
6 of the sports will be played at Syosset Woodbury Park from 8:45am- 1:00pm. There will be a break for lunch at the Crest Hollow Country Club. The remaining 4 sports will be played at the beach club from 2:30 - 5:30pm. Each sport will have specific rules and a 25 minute time limit. Referees will be assigned to enforce all rules and will be the final authority on all matters concerning each of the ten competitions. Each individual participant must compete in at least 5 sports and in no more than 8. There will be no more than 6 players competing at one time in any sport from each team. Team captains will determine the participants of each sport prior to the event.
10 points are up for grabs for each team with each competition. The team with the most total points at the end of the day wins the first Long Island Team Sports Olympics! The cost to participate is $50 and includes lunch and jerseys (t-shirts). If you are interested in participating, you must send an email to [email protected] expressing your desire to play and your ability to commit for the entire day on August 11. YOU MUST BE THERE SUPPORTING YOUR TEAM FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT! In your email you must list each of the sports and place an A, B or C next to each one. A indicates that this is a strong sport for you. It doesn't necessarily mean you are a professional or the greatest ever, but it lets us know that this is a sport where you can contribute most. B simply means that you like to play the sport and don't stink at it. C means that this is either your weakest sport, a sport you don't want to play or a sport you've never even heard of before. This will help us determine the level of your participation at this event. We have a lot of initial interest so please respond ASAP!!!! If you would like to participate as a referee or time and score keeper, let us know. Free lunch in it for you as well. One last thing...this will be an amazing day of friendly competition! No crazies allowed. You know who you are! Looking forward to a great day and many more to come!
