We’ve been getting questions about the process of sending in feathers. Let’s talk proper packaging and acceptable feather conditions. Here are some boxes we receive from customers who send a lot and often so they’ve got the system down! The biggest tips:

1. Our main concern is that there’s a note with your info and what you want done - and no meat or bugs.
2. Overpacking can result in damaged quills, causing feathers to be unusable.
3. Bags can help keep the feathers sorted and can add extra protection
4. We might see light dust, dried mud, dried blood. For safer handling some people rinse or wipe excessive soiling and use steam to straighten any misshapen barbs.
5. Check for pests! The last photo is a moth larvae infestation. Look for the tiny eggs, sacs, or damage where larvae is consuming the feather. If you’re ever unsure if there are eggs hiding in your feathers you can bag them and freeze them for 72 hours to kill them. Any infestation found on feathers causes a delay - that box is immediately separated from the rest, what’s salvageable is frozen for several days and the area is cleaned before processing other feathers.

We often take custom orders for our chopped and ready-to-fletch feathers, handcrafting them at time of order because it’s so hard to keep dozens in stock - they go quick! Greetings, Wild Fletching fam! 🏹 I’m Alexis, and it’s about time I properly introduced myself because I’ll be the one keeping y’all in the loop about restocks, sales, and all the good stuff happening over here. Josh and I go way back to our school days and when he kicked off this venture, I started helping with feathers. My knack for detail synced perfectly with his high standards.
