The 2026 St Catherine track and field championship season continued at the MHSAA Regional 28 championships at Stockbridge HS. Here the ladies of St Catherine competed against the 13 other D3 programs. The day finished with St. Catherine taking second in the team competition matching the program's best ever regional performance.
The 2026 St Catherine track and field championship season continued at the MHSAA Regional 28 championships at Stockbridge HS. Here the ladies of St Catherine competed against the 13 other D3 programs. The day began with the field events. First in Discus, the ladies of St Catherine were led by a championship throw from Ava Lassey, she won the regional title and qualified for the state final with a throw of 87 ft. Also in the discus Nora Cordon took 7th with a throw of 67 ft. Next, in Long Jump, Gemma Gordon jumped to a new personal best of 13 ft 4 in to take 7th in the region. In high jump, Josie Connors jumped 4ft 5in to take home a time for 4th place. And finally, in the shot put competition, Ava Lassey won her second title of the day with a throw of over 34ft this also qualified her for the State Finals, she was followed by Mary McPeake who took 8th with a throw of over 24 ft.
The on track action began with the 4x800 meter relay. Here the team of Medel, DiFranco, Sitto, and Karim, took home 5th place good enough to score and medal. This was followed by the 100m Hurdles in which Josie Connors, got her second medal of the day taking 7th. Next, in the 100 meter dash, Reagan Lees, took 4th with a time of 13.18 just outside her lifetime best. The 4x200 meter relay followed. Here the team of Lassey (Jillian), Gemma Gordon, Nora Condon, and Azalea Cook took 9th place with a season’s best time. The 1600 meter run followed, here Mia Karim, and Ari Medel fought hard to the finish running times just outside of their personal best, good enough for 5th and 6th in the competition (which are both medal winning performances). The 4x100 meter relay continued the meet. Here the team of Lassey, Lassey, Gordon, and Condon ran a 1:06 good for 10th place. After the 400 relay, came the 400 meter run. Here the ladies of St Catherine went 1-5, with Tina Wenderski taking 5th with a time of 1:07, and Reagan won the competition with a time just outside 61 seconds. This performance qualifies her for the State finals. In the 300 meter hurdles, the stars took home two more all region medals, with Azalea Cook taking 6th with a new PR of 56.5, and Josie Connors taking 8th to medal. Next up in the 800 meter run, Veronica DiFranco took 5th with a new personal best of 2:45, and Charlize Sitto took 7th, good enough to score. After the 800 came the final sprint final in which Tina Wenderski won her second medal of the day taking 7th in the 200. In the last individual event of the day Mia Karim took 3rd place in the 3200 meter run with a PR of 16:31. The meet concluded with the 4x400 meter relay in which the Stars team of Wenderski, Conners, Cook, and Lees won the competition and qualified for the state finals with a new school record of 4:22.6.
After a great day of competition the ladies of St Catherine continue their season with the Post a PR meet at Linden this upcoming Thursday.
