The Lowry Cross Country teams competed Saturday at the Leo Mikelonis Memorial Invitational, hosted by Spanish Springs High School. The race featured a 5K (3.1 miles) and a highly competitive field, with the majority of teams competing at the 5A level.

VARSITY GIRLS

Alyla Thomas led the Lowry varsity girls, finishing 6th out of 96 runners and earning a medal in a very competitive field.

A strong showing from the entire girls team, with multiple runners continuing to improve and establish new personal and season bests.

JV BOYS

The Lowry JV boys had a strong team performance, finishing 2nd out of 9 teams, behind only Reno High School.

Lowry had three runners finish in the top 10, with all three earning medals:

The JV boys were competing without two of their key runners, making the 2nd-place team finish even more encouraging. The depth and continued improvement within this group show a lot of promise as they work toward moving up to varsity competition.

With multiple personal bests and season bests across both teams, Lowry continues to build momentum as the season moves forward.

Lowry Girls Varsity Cross Country Compete at Highly Competitive Truckee Invitational

Truckee, California — September 26, 2026

The Lowry High School girls varsity cross country team traveled to Truckee on Saturday, September 26, to compete in the Truckee Invitational at Ponderosa Golf Course, racing at an elevation of 6,000 feet.

The varsity girls race featured a competitive field of 16 varsity girls teams and 142 runners, including several Northern Nevada 5A programs and schools from California.

Lowry was led by the three Thomas sisters, who paced the Buckaroos through the challenging varsity field.

Alyla Thomas led the Lowry girls, finishing as the team's top runner and helping the Buckaroos earn a 9th-place team finish out of 16 teams.

The Truckee Invitational provided another strong test for Lowry, competing at 6,000 feet against a competitive field from Nevada and California.

The Buckaroos continue to build momentum as the season progresses, with the Thomas sisters playing an important role in leading the Lowry girls through the 2026 season.

**TRUCKEE INVITATIONAL 🏃‍♂️**

On Saturday, September 26, the Lowry boys cross country team competed at the Truckee Cross Country Invitational, with 17 teams from Northern Nevada and California participating.

The boys showed a lot of promise for the future of the program, earning 2nd place out of 17 teams in the JV race, which featured 175 runners.

Cisco Renteria led the way for Lowry, helping the team secure a strong 2nd-place finish.

The team was also competing without top runner Cooper Hoagland, while Patrick Moses battled illness and was not at his best.

Despite those challenges, the boys stepped up and delivered a strong team performance. A lot of promise for the future of Lowry Cross Country.

LOWRY CROSS COUNTRY — RUN THE RUBIES INVITATIONAL

September 18 was another strong day for Lowry Cross Country!

🥉 LOWRY BOYS — 3RD PLACE TEAM

The Lowry boys took 3rd place as a team at the Elko Run the Rubies Cross Country Invitational, led by junior Patrick Moses.

Patrick finished 5th overall with a new personal best of 17:14.41!

Patrick has made tremendous progress in both cross country and track. He has put in the work to get where he is today — the miles, the workouts, the consistency and the commitment to becoming a better runner.

September 18 was another outstanding day for Lowry Cross Country!

🥇 LOWRY GIRLS — 1ST PLACE TEAM

The Lowry girls took 1st place as a team at the Elko Run the Rubies Cross Country Invitational, putting together an incredible performance from top to bottom.

Leading the way was senior Alyla Thomas, who DOMINATED the race, taking 1st place overall with a time of 17:29.08!🥇
