Volontaires Etrangers de Lauzun

Volontaires Etrangers de Lauzun Living History group dedicated to the research and portrayal of the French unit, Volontaires Etrangers de Lauzun, also known as Lauzun's Legion, circa 1781.

Lauzun's Legion strives to portray the original unit as closely as possible, but we are also realistic. Our time in the recreated unit portrayal is a hobby. We pride ourselves in authentic recreation of the clothing and uniforms, and keeping our camp visually correct, but with the realization we live in the 21st century. Also, unlike many other reenactment units throughout the country, we allow women to portray soldiers. However, we do require that any person, male or female, who wants to be a soldier must be proficient in their choice to join the line. They must be able to carry and handle the musket without difficulty, wear all accouterments including full cartridge box and sword, wear the full uniform, know the manual of arms, understand orders and maneuver quickly on the field following French commands. Members are also encouraged to learn the proper use of the sword and bayonet. We portray the unit in October 1781, during the siege of Yorktown at Gloucester. The uniforms reflect the research known from the 1779 Royal Ordinance regulations, and the Legion's specific ordinance.
