Did you know there are three areas of body movement that are killing your putting? As you get your putting ready for spring, it’s important to eliminate unnecessary body movement in your stroke. In putting tip 5 of 5, here are three areas where small movements can quietly sabotage your putts: your wrists, your head, and your legs. When any of these start moving during the stroke, your putter face can easily get off line.

The key is to stay steady and let the shoulders control the motion. By keeping your wrists quiet, your head still, and your legs stable, you’ll develop a smoother, more consistent putting stroke that sends the ball rolling on your intended line.

Great putting starts before the stroke even begins. In Putting Tip 4 of 5, Dave shares the importance of having a consistent setup routine every time you step over the ball. Start by squaring the putter face, then pick a small intermediate target just in front of the ball to aim at. Finally, set your feet in the same position each time. A simple way to practice this is by using an alignment stick along with a few coins on the ground. Place two coins where your feet should line up and another behind the ball so you can return to the exact same setup again and again. As your body gets comfortable repeating the same position, your stroke becomes more consistent.

Most missed putts come down to one thing: face angle. In putting tip 3 of 5 on how to improve your putting by spring, learn why the putter face must be square at 90 degrees to your stroke path. Trying to fix it during the stroke with your hands or shoulders almost always leads to inconsistency. Click to watch and learn more: https://youtu.be/XmCngK6CrnU

The real key to a square face happens before you ever move the putter. By choosing a small intermediate target just in front of the ball, setting the putter face first, and then building your stance around it, you create a repeatable setup you can trust.

With the Delta Putt, you’ll see instant feedback. If the lead point tracks right, the face is open. If it tracks left, it’s closed. This simple routine helps you roll the ball on your intended line with confidence before spring.

Great putting doesn’t come from forcing the putter straight back and straight through. It comes from allowing a natural stroke path to happen. In tip 2 of 5, we break down why your putting stroke naturally moves on a slight arc, and why trying to manipulate the putter face often leads to missed putts. Click to watch and learn more: https://youtu.be/NGPiDgNjGgc

Learn a simple drill using an alignment stick placed against your putter and resting on your sternum. This drill instantly reveals whether your hands are separating or your takeaway is disconnecting from your body, helping you build a smoother, more connected stroke you can trust before spring.
