A school is only as strong as the families who build it.
At WOM, we don’t outsource parenting. Our culture works because our families are “all in”—diving in this year with their time, their talents, and their treasure to make this experiment a reality.
Last night at our New Family Gathering, we were reminded of exactly why we do this. A massive THANK YOU to the families who have been part of making WOM life-changing for our kiddos. We also loved meeting so many new families looking to challenge their kids with high standards, think outside the traditional education box, and put their children in an environment where they have to take actual ownership of their learning.
You don’t have to take our word for it. Here is what happens when you stop playing school and start building a life, straight from the parents who are living it (from last night):
Real-World Skills Over Desks
“The first week he came home with like grease and all in his creases, all over his face. And I’m just like, ‘This is what boys need.’ Like, they don’t need to be chained to a desk all day, every day.”
“He actually learned how to change a battery in a car the other day. So I saw the video of that, and it was just one of the most exciting things.”
On True Ownership & Agency
“I didn’t even pack that lunch. She’s not even six. She makes her lunch like every day... She’s grown quite a bit too from a maturity standpoint.”
“The fact that he actually will get up and lay his clothes out and get ready and go to school is really impressive because [in the past] he did not like [going to] school at all.”
On Finding the Drive to Learn
“My kindergartener the other day, somebody was talking math numbers, and she goes, ‘Oh, that’s ten.’ And you’re like, ‘Oh wow, these kids are really putting it together. They’re eager to learn,’ which is really cool, because a lot of times you don’t have kids who are eager to learn.”
“It’s just been really cool to see them go there... sometimes it’ll be like Sunday night and they’re like, ‘Oh man, I’m so excited to go to school tomorrow.’”
Thank you to such a dedicated tribe of families for building this with us. Let’s keep going.
