TIGERS GOT BLASTED BACK TO HERSCHER
To be honest, I don’t think any fans at tonight’s games expect there to be any real chance that Herscher was going to return home with any elevated spirits. We got the ball first and the Tigers handed us a three-and-out. On our next possession we fumbled it to them at their 20. Two plays later Fynn Bryant picked off a pass and returned it to their 6. Even then, we were flagged for a False Start before Hunter Kaitschuck crossed the goal line from the 11, more than half-way through Quarter One.
On Herscher’s seventh offensive play, their QB was carried off the field and did not return. His backup had multiple fumble-snap problems with their Center resulting in 8 TFL and probably a higher-than-usual incompletion rate.
By halftime, Herscher had completed 2 of 10 pass attempts to their receivers and our DB’s also caught a pair of their 10 tries. Their Total Offense in that first half was 14 carries for -17 yards, plus ten net yards on those 10 pass plays, making it Total Offense of – 7 yards on 24 plays.
In our first half we had five ball carriers carry a total of 18 times for 220 yards. As a plus, Brysen Meents completed 4 of 7 passes for 110 yards and a pair of TDs. Out T.O. for the half was 330 yards on 25 plays.
My unaudited game stats showed us with 40 plays for 424 yards of Total Offense. The Tigers ended up with 48 yards on the ground and 52 through the air for exactly 100 yards on 31 plays. It was not a fun game to watch, but across the playing field, I have a feeling they enjoyed themselves even less.
The F-S game was a preview of the varsity contest. We had 5 or 6 different people score a total of 49 points to their 13. The varsity game had eight different scorers for their 49 points.
