Today marks a decade since the tragic loss of George Kavanaugh, who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run outside the Lincoln Hose Company Firehouse in Somerville, NJ. Ten years have passed, and still, there are no answers.

George was more than a victim—he was a dedicated firefighter, a pillar of our community, a beloved family member, and a friend to so many. His life was one of service and kindness, and he deserved better than to have his story end this way.

His wife, Anita, never stopped seeking justice for him. Until the day she passed, she held onto hope that the person responsible would be found. Now, we carry that hope forward. Someone out there knows what happened on March 6, 2015. Someone has the missing piece that could finally bring closure to his loved ones.

If you have any information—no matter how small—please come forward. It’s never too late to do the right thing.

This page will always serve as a memorial to George, a place to honor his life and legacy. But we will also continue to seek the truth, in the hope that one day, the person responsible will be held accountable.

The family requests anyone with information to please call Mr. Benvenisti at 201-907-5000 to ensure your info is reviewed and can make an impact.

Please share this post and help us keep the conversation going.

Authorities believe a firefighter may have been involved in the hit-and-run death.

I am glad that George's case is still open, just wish we could get some answers and justice.

"Benvenisti believes that the lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court in Somerville, will have a better chance of discovering who killed Kavanaugh because of the right to subpoena witnesses who would be required to testify under oath "as to what they know, what they observed, what they were told and what they remember."
If a subpoenaed witness lies under oath, that witness has committed perjury, which carries a possibility of a prison sentence.
"The purpose of the lawsuit is to find out who killed George Kavanaugh on March 6, 2015," Benvenisti said."

A wrongful death suit is being brought against the borough, Somerset County and 23 other defendants over a hit-and-run of a firefighter last year.
