Amarillo Yellowjackets

Amarillo Yellow Jackets is a youth mountain biking team open to ALL 5th - 12th graders in the Amarillo area.

We also have a club for younger riders interested in riding mountain bikes and learning skills. We are a youth mountain biking organization that provides multiple opportunities for kids to get involved. We have an Interscholastic team (6-12th grade) that has been competing in the Texas Interscholastic spring league since 2014. We added a club for younger riders in 2022 and have now added a second

Interscholastic team that will compete in the New Mexico Interscholastic fall league. our mission is to:

-Provide students who have the desire to mountain bike with the coaching and camaraderie that will help them achieve both competitive and non-competitive cross-country mountain biking goals in a safe and enjoyable manner;

-Develop an awareness of what it is to be an amateur athlete that is both gracious and respectful to their community;

-Create an environment in which they may discover new friendships and find role models;

-Guide students towards learning new skills and disciplines, and spread the foundations of mountain bike racing across the U.S.;

-Foster a responsible attitude toward the use of trails and wilderness

-Promote the value of cycling to our community as a mode of transportation and as a lifelong sport

Plans for our club ride this week is to meet at the Sunflower/Rojo trailhead at 6 pm Thursday.
No ride this Sunday with it being Mother’s Day.

Congratulations to our Texas league team!!! They just finished up another great season. Great job to everyone who rode, transported or supported our team!! Thank you!!

As our Texas team wraps up their season and the end of school year activities start picking up, we will be reducing our club rides to twice a week. We’ll be riding Thursday evenings at 6pm meeting in the Canyon at the Lighthouse parking lot this week and Sunday afternoons at 3pm meeting in the Pavilion parking lot.

Rain chances are up for this evening so we’re canceling the club ride in the canyon.
There also will not be a ride this Sunday with the Texas team at a race and other coaches out of town for training.
We’ll see you Monday evening at 9th street!! 5pm

Plans for this week and schedule going forward until the end of the Texas season.

Thursday 2-26: No team practice due to race weekend.
Club kids ride at Buffalo Hills trails at 5 pm.

Saturday 3-28: Skills clinic at Belmar Park at 4pm.

Schedule for next few weeks:
Mondays: 9th street trails at 5pm
Thursdays: PDC pavilion parking lot at 6pm for climb outs or trail rides.
Sundays ( non race weekends) PDC pavilion parking lot 3-5pm for trail rides.
Any other skills clinics or events will be posted as they come up.

Practice tomorrow 3/19, will be climb outs for the Texas team. Meeting in the Pavilion parking lot in PDC at 6.

I ( coach Brian) will most likely not be able to ride tomorrow evening so there won’t be a club ride.

Remember! Saturday afternoon at 4:30, skills and bike games at Belmar Park. Meeting at the NE corner of the park.

Sunday!! First Six Pack race at 9 th Street trails at 11 am. Come out and participate and support our local trail builders.

No practice today with most members recovering from the VOT race.

We will have practice Monday ( tomorrow) and a club ride Thursday but no practice next Sunday due to another race

Weather permitting we are planning to have a Skills/games session on Saturday March 21st at 4:30 pm in Belmar Park.

Sunday the 22nd is the first race of the year so we encourage you to support that event.

The weather is looking good for having a skills/bike games session this Saturday!
We will be going over fundamentals and playing skills enhancing games this Saturday at 4 pm. We will be meeting in the NE corner of Belmar Park.
If you’ve been interested in seeing what our organization is about but haven’t made it out to a practice yet, this is a great opportunity to get involved and learn some skills.

With the First race of the season being cancelled,
Here’s the plans for the week.
Tomorrow 2/1/26: support the short track race at the Schoolyard, pre ride is at 2 racing starts at 3pm

Monday 9th street trails at 5pm( NOTE TIME CHANGE)

Thursday Buff Hills at 5pm
Next Sunday 2/8 PDC 3pm.

Since the warm weather has gone that way ⬇️. And there are some schedule conflicts for having spin class this evening, we are canceling practice for this evening and hoping the weather cooperates for Thursday evening at Buffalo Hills.

Change of Plans for this Sunday!!! 1/11/26: we are not having practice but instead encouraging everyone to participate in the short track race that is putting on at the Schoolyard Sunday at 3pm.

Practice schedule for the upcoming week will be

Monday: 4:30 9 th street trails

Thursday: 4:30 Buff Hills trails

Sunday 1/18/26: 3pm Palo Duro Canyon

Making a slight change to our practice schedule.
Starting tomorrow 1/5/26, we will have practice on Mondays at 9th Street trails at 4:30 and will be at the Buff Hills Trails on Thursdays at 4:30 with Sundays in PDC 3-5pm.
We will be having a skills/bike games session on a Saturday afternoon soon weather permitting so keep an eye out for that!!
