Kicking it with kindness during “Shop with a Cop” at Walmart. What a great opportunity for the kids from Brookings Tae Kwon Do to see how their actions can positively impact their local community. It’s hard to not be overwhelmed by the smiles on the participants’ faces as the TKD kids wrapped gifts.

What a great community event sponsored by Walmart and all of the Law Enforcement agencies in Brookings County. They have been doing this for 20 years!!!!36 children were nominated this year by different local and school resource offices and each child received $300 worth of gifts of THEIR choosing. The kids were escorted through the store with a law enforcement officer as their own personal shopper🛍 Plus, each family received a full cart of groceries, including a turkey, ham and everything else you need for the perfect Christmas dinner.

“Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.

But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.

A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said.

We are at our best when we serve others.”

Shout out to the 6th graders at George Mickelson and their successful Wax Museum. They students posed as famous characters in history. When $ was dropped in their donation box they each came to life to share their stories. The best part-the kids chose to use ALL the profits to fund a honor flight for a South Dakotan Veteran to fly to DC. Way to “kick it with kindness!”

Hunter was Leonardo da Vinci.

I recently shared a go fund me page on my personal newsfeed. It is someone that I know personally and felt moved to help. I absolutely LOVE that one of my friends on FB, my Aunt, kicked it with kindness and donated too. To her, this person is a stranger but chose to help regardless. THANK YOU!

There are people out there doing acts of kindness everyday. What kindness have you seen lately?

How about this for a fun game? Kindness bingo! Who can be the first in your family to complete their board?
