Setting the stage
I am not sponsored by or affiliated with SCCY.
This was my first time using a handgun with a red dot.
This was also my first time firing a double action only handgun.
My first rounds and fam fire
I fired 5 rounds from each magazine to test the cycle of operations then fired 20 more rounds at 5 and 7 yards to get a feel for the red dot and trigger. The rest of the testing was done at 5 yards.
Accuracy and reliability
After getting comfortable with the CPX-2 I fired 4 more strings of 5 rounds to zero the red dot. Adjustments were easy to make and only minor tweaking was needed. Accuracy at 5 yards was acceptable to me considering I am not used to double action fi****ms and my trigger finger was getting fatigued by this point. I fired 20 more rounds to confirm zero and work on trigger squeeze and finger position on the trigger. For the last 20 rounds I used my carry ammunition, Critical Defense ensure it cycled properly and test any differences in accuracy.
Final Impression
I was Impressed by the accuracy, ease of adjustment on the red dot and reliability. I fired a total of 90 rounds and experienced no malfunctions of chambering, firing or extracting. I did notice that twice, the slide failed to lock to the rear on an empty magazine. I'll need to do more testing to see if that was a fluke or if there is an issue with one of the magazine springs. The ammunition I used was (50) Re*****on, (20) Fiocchi and (20) Critical Defense, all 115 gr and cycled perfectly. I feel confident in my SCCY CPX-2 and would recommend anyone interested in it to give it a try.
