From our Friends at Redwood Gun Club North of Eureka CA. The match should be dated Aug 23.

Hi Nathan,
Well, our first official CMP match on Shotmarkers is in the books!
I made some pretty embarrassing mistakes.
I hated to write numbers on the faces of our shiny new transmitters, so I wrote tiny numbers on the back side. We have no pits and some pretty bad shooters, so I designed a block of wood and bracket to mount the transmitters perpendicular to the range, cutting the area of potential hit by half. I mounted them on the existing 2x6 rails carrying the range target backers between our new frames and I covered them with a 3x3x 6" angle iron deflector welded to a 1/2" rebar stake driven into the sand. When I was setting up the targets I inadvertently crossed target 9 & 10's transmitter. fortunately, or UNFORTUNATELY depending on point of view, I was on target 9. I was accusing Tom on T-10 of crossfiring on my target and he likewise! Alan, our IT guru and match director was busy working through his first match with multiple targets, plus we are taking turns running different relays so we can both shoot, total confusion! We thought the targets were picking up each other's mikes, not thinking of the crossed transmitters! We manually went down range to score until I finally figured out the dummy that crossed the transmitters! The confusion did not do my standing score any favors!
Once Rapid Prone was over and everything wired correctly, things mellowed out! Slow Prone worked well, with 2 shots off call. I had a high 8 and a high 9 in nearly the same area. Both were clearly x ring holds. Now I am concerned about the kinetic bullet puller effect of jamming the bullet into the lands when slamming the bolt home on an AR platform. I was shooting my 6 AR Match rifle using .002" neck tension with about .005" off the lands.

Have you played with distance off lands for accuracy in a gas gun?

Anyway, over all the Shotmarkers were a learning curve for all, but will be awesome from here forward!
Here are our scores: I just saw your Milvale scores. You have some pretty good shooters! Sets the bar for all of us to shoot for! I see we both tied in x count! Good shooting! Looks like we both need to work on our Standing scores! Take care, Sid

Results from Today's match.

We had 12 shooters come out today including 3 new shooters. Rich Hilderbrand took 1st with a 787-37x including an oddball 198-17x with an 8 being his first shot. After that even the 10s he shot were just off the x-ring. Edward Altmeyer Jr. took 2nd with a 782-25x. Gordon Taras was 3rd with a 778-25x. We won't talk about my offhand but I took 4th I guess. For the Newbies Ed's wife Gretchen Pyle Altmeyer was high rookie with a 636-4x. I coached her to her high score of the day in slow prone just saying. Ben Mauti was 2nd with a 622-3x. I believe he is planning to mortgage the house to get shooting gear. If anyone has spare gear they want to sell, reach out to him. Larry Babcock was 3rd with a 600-1x. Marc Christian had to quit after a 192-4x offhand due to "pi**in Hawt Loads"

Big thanks to Joe Hendricks for getting the guys ammo and to Marc and Gordon who helped coach the new shooters. Next Match is 9/13 and will be a 50 shot followed by a rimfire sporter fun match. in the next 2 weeks we have Clairton with a 50 shot match next week, followed by a 50 shot at DML on 9/5 and the PA State Championship at Reade 9/6

Trail Cam Chronicles Chpt.3 after very little activity last week the deer have become mobile again. Cooler day temps along with night time showers has made for more day time spottings. I also found a an Eastern box turtle buy the lake cam. A welcome sight as theyre numbers jave been dwindling

Despite the Dreary Weather forecast we had 12 shooters come out. The new 20x10 Tents the club bought made sure we stayed dry during the spotty showers that persisted all match. You could definitely tell that some shooters came back from nationals with a renewed vigor while others were definitely exhausted from the ordeal. Recently retired All Guard Shooter Edward Altmeyer Jr. won the match with a 494-17X Cleaning both Prones. Right on his heels is newly distinguished shooter Marc Christian who only dropped 3 points going into Slow Prone but had a rough front string to knock him to 491-19x. Rich Hilderbrand and I went point for point and X for X the entire match. He, however, edged me out in rapid prone to take 3rd with a 488-22x to my 487-21x. Our slow Prone target was impressive with not a single shot out of the 10 ring and (counting Sighters) 27x on the paper. We finished the match before 11:30 and everyone helped clean up. Now to dry out the tents and get ready for next week when we have an 80 Shot RMC.
