The NCAA Division I recruiting dead period runs August 28–September 3, 2026. During this time, in-person recruiting contacts and evaluations are not permitted on or off a member institution’s campus, and official or unofficial visits are not permitted. Phone calls and electronic correspondence are permitted after September 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s junior year. Stay informed, know the rules, and make sure your recruiting process stays compliant!!

2026-27 NCAA DIVISION I SOFTBALL RECRUITING CALENDAR

The new recruiting calendar is here! Here’s the quick breakdown for players, families and coaches…

CONTACT PERIODS
• Aug. 1–9, 2026
• June 12–July 31, 2027

During contact periods, college coaches can have in-person recruiting contact and evaluations.

EVALUATION PERIODS
• Aug. 10–Nov. 22, 2026
• Jan. 3–May 31, 2027
• Plus specific dates in October/November

Coaches can evaluate prospective student-athletes at approved scholastic and competition activities.

DEAD PERIODS
• Aug. 28–Sept. 3
• Nov. 9–12
• Dec. 9–12
• June 1–11

No in-person recruiting contact or evaluations on campus during a dead period.

QUIET PERIOD
• Nov. 23, 2026–Jan. 2, 2027

In-person recruiting contact is limited to the college campus during a quiet period.

RECRUITING SHUTDOWNS
• Nov. 25–29
• Dec. 22–26
• Dec. 31–Jan. 2

No recruiting activities during these shutdown periods.

BIG PICTURE:
The most important stretch for softball recruiting starts August 1, with the first Contact Period of the new academic year.

BREAKING NEWS

The NCAA Division II has officially adopted an age-based eligibility model, effective immediately.

🔹 Student-athletes will now have 5 years to compete in 5 seasons.
🔹 The new model is in effect immediately.
🔹 No additional year of eligibility will be granted to student-athletes who exhausted their eligibility during the 2025-26 academic year.

Move over, COVID-era eligibility… there’s a new eligibility shake-up.

A Colorado federal court has temporarily ruled that Division I athletes from the Class of 2022 who used up their eligibility this past season can return and play in 2026–27.

What does this mean?
• Former players could return to their teams.
• Coaches must still stay under the 25-player roster limit.
• Fewer roster spots may be available for incoming recruits over the next few years.

If this ruling stands, it could have a major impact on recruiting and roster management across Division I softball!!!!
