“When ADHD Therapeutic Incompetence Becomes Malpractice.”

🧠 New Substack Post 🧠 Link in bio. Do you have ADHD and have had bad experiences in traditional talk therapy? Me too. This piece directly addresses a problematic consult I had the other day with a neurotypical therapist who grossly misunderstands ADHD. Ever wondered what therapy with an ADHD trained, neurodivergent therapist is like? Head over to my Substack to find out.

Let me be clear, I still don’t know what resting B* Face is except that people tell me I have it. But if I did have such a face, the first rule of Autistic evil thoughts face club would be don’t let people know about Autistic evil thoughts face club, ya know? lol.

Are you an intellectualizer with trauma who keeps hearing you need to “process your trauma”? (Part 2 of 2)

WTF does it mean to “process your trauma?” I am a licensed therapist who specializes in trauma and Autism/ADHD. I got you. It took me a long time to understand what processing my trauma meant and how exactly I was going to go from self-aware intellectualizing to actually experiencing my emotions. If you are wanting to “do trauma work,” I hope this illustrates the process and makes it less scary. ❤️❤️❤️ Trigger warning, this story involves me sharing my own trauma about fire arms.

Yes, Even Masking Is Caused By Racism. New Substack Drop. Link in bio. I have always wondered why it seems like in white culture there are cruel-kindnesses that are done to us like Autistics being forced to mask for our own protection or me being shamed back in the closet as a non-binary person to protect me. Understanding whiteness as a culture of high-compliance in which white people are not free but rather that white skin protects white people without other marginalized identities from systemic violence was a lightbulb moment for me. It made me understand why masking and passing always feel the same to me, why q***r masking and neurodivergent masking feel the same to me, and how something like ABA could emerge and be called a “therapy.” Please head over to read the full article, it’s public access. I even did a - “TLDR Recap” at the end if you want to skip ahead before digging into the full piece. https://substack.com//note/p-202380192?r=5tjjxk&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action

This video was inspired by work I have been doing with clients in therapy and my own self-work. I talked with someone who watches my content recently and we were talking about masking and I told them, “I do a lot of masking in my videos I’ve realized,” and they said without judgement, “Yeah, I can tell.” *Face crack. I was told throughout my therapist training that my “excessive motions” could be distracting and while I believe that, I think in my videos I have been unconciously masking and didn’t even realize it. This video was a lot easier to film than when I mask with stillness because I could focus more on my words and meaning and not supressing my body and face movements. I want to thank that that person for seeing me. ❤️

In our discussion about neurodivergence at work, I had a question I feel like no one is talking about. Everyone is talking about how the current Gen of AI may be a bust, but what about the next Gen, true generative AI, Why would it care about us? Why would it want to take our boring jobs? Thank you Brett for hosting me for this interview about neurodiversity at work. You can check out the full convesation on YT on Brett’s AuDHD Boss channel, episode title: “Why being too good at your job backfires when you’re Neurodivergent” and please head over and give his page here and give it a like and a follow. :-)

After our last conversation about why “its bad to be too good at your job when you’re neurodivergent” went viral, Brett and I got a ton of questions from you about what to do instead; and so we did a followup episode out today on YT or wherever you get your Pods: “Why being too good at your job backfires when you’re Neurodivergent” where we talk about burnout, how to figure out how to actually give less than your best at work, how and when to disclose that you have ADHD and or Autism, and much more. Thanks Brett for having me back. Please give Brett a like and follow! Their content is awesome.
