The Blue Blazes softball team wrapped up their season today with a hard‑fought 7-3 loss to Bonny Eagle. We were hopeful for the chance to play in Tuesday’s regional final, but it simply was not our day. Even so, this group has every reason to hold their heads high.

These seniors have been on a remarkable journey. What began as a co‑op with South Portland during their freshman year shifted dramatically when they stepped out of the co‑op as sophomores and won only three games. As juniors, they battled to finish just over .500 and earned the right to host a prelim playoff game at home. And this year, they earned the #3 seed, secured a first‑round bye, and hosted a quarterfinal playoff game on their own field. They have built something real here. They created a winning culture, and they leave behind a standard that will shape this program for years to come.

The underclassmen who remain have learned from their leadership. They are hungry, motivated, and ready to continue the winning ways these seniors helped establish. It was a joy to watch this team compete all season. They were tough, resilient, and incredibly talented.

We will miss this senior group, but we cannot wait to watch this team take the field again next year. Thank you for representing Westbrook with pride and toughness. You have made us so proud.

What a night for the Westbrook Lady Blazes.

We opened with a scoreboard dedication honoring the Cornelia Warren Community Association, represented tonight by Ed Symbol and Sue Joyce, whose continued support made our brand‑new baseball and softball scoreboards possible.

We followed that with a ceremonial first pitch from Lisa Blais Manning, a recent Westbrook High School Hall of Fame inductee and quite possibly the most decorated athlete in school history.

Then came the chaos. A wild pair of opening innings. A 45‑minute weather delay. A rowdy group of Westbrook boys athletes bringing the energy and cheering on the Lady Blazes. And the moment of the night: Emma Boulette recording the 100th hit of her Westbrook career.

This team is gritty, resilient, and an absolute blast to watch.

To make the night even better, the SMAA honored our athletes:

First Team All‑SMAA

Emma Boulette
Emma Rice
Emma Clukey
Madison Ross

Honorable Mention

Faith Stoddard
Elyse Broad

And congratulations to Brian Ross, the SMAA Coach of the Year.

Despite all the accolades, these ladies know the job is not finished. Come support them on Saturday at Bonny Eagle (11:00 AM) as they take on the Scots for a chance to represent Westbrook in the Regional Semifinal at USM.

Go Blue Blazes!

Huge congratulations to our Westbrook spring athletes who were selected to the All‑SMAA teams this season. Your hard work, dedication, and competitive spirit made the Blue Blaze community proud.

A special shout‑out to Coach Ross on being named SMAA Softball Coach of the Year, a well‑deserved honor that reflects his leadership and commitment to our athletes.

And an extra round of applause for Brady Peterson for earning the prestigious Fred Harlow Award, recognizing excellence, character, and impact on and off the field.

Proud of all our Blazes this spring. The future is bright in Westbrook. Go Blue Blazes.

Our girls lacrosse team fell to Mt. Ararat at home this evening 8 to 5. It was not the result the Blue Blazes were hoping for, but every defeat offers a moment for reflection. This season gives us plenty to be proud of. It has been a year of firsts for this program, including what we believe was the first playoff appearance in program history and the first playoff game hosted at Olmsted Field.

Much of this progress is due to the leadership and determination of the Class of 2026. They helped move this program forward and set a foundation for future success.

Although today’s loss is difficult, the legacy these seniors leave behind is powerful, and the future of this program is bright. Keep your heads up ladies, you made your city proud tonight.

The Westbrook High School track and field team delivered an outstanding performance at the Class A State Championship on Saturday, June 6, highlighted by a historic moment for the program. Baxter Carroll not only earned 2nd place in the pole vault, but he also broke the WHS school record, clearing 13‑6 and cementing his name in Blue Blaze history.

Westbrook also earned several strong finishes across the meet. Dimitri Lubin placed 6th in the 400m with a time of 50.92, while Paciencia Ndontoni secured 6th in the long jump at 20‑4. In the throws, Jack Landry finished 7th in the discus with a mark of 146‑5, and on the girls side, Vivian Anderson earned 8th place in the javelin with a throw of 89‑11. Additional top‑15 performances from Ryan Garber, Owen Cousins, and David Bolling rounded out a strong team showing.

A special recognition goes to our senior athletes, who demonstrated exceptional dedication by choosing to compete at the state meet on the same day as their high school graduation, traveling nearly two hours to represent Westbrook one final time. Their commitment to their teammates, their sport, and their school embodies what it means to be a Blue Blaze.
