We need your help! 🙌

Set It Off Volleyball has a handful of open spots left for the upcoming season, and the best way we fill them is the same way we always have — word of mouth from families like yours.

🏐 3rd grade & younger — 6 spots
🏐 4th grade — 5 spots
🏐 6th grade — 4 spots

SIOV is built for girls in grades 3–7 who want to learn the game in a place where everybody plays. No tryouts, no cuts, first come, first served.

Please share this post or tag a family who'd be a great fit. One share could be the reason a kid finds her team this year.

🏐 Help us keep the answer "yes."

Two years ago, Set It Off Volleyball started with one idea: there should be a place between rec ball and elite club volleyball. No tryouts. No cuts. Every girl in grades 3–7 who wants to learn the game gets a spot and a coach who's invested in her.

Families told us they wanted it. Last season we had 71 athletes. This season we have 119 and a waitlist.

But running a season isn't free — gym time, uniforms, equipment, tournaments, coaches. For some families in our community, that cost is the difference between playing and sitting out. And money should never be the reason a 4th grader never finds out she loves this sport.

That's what our Scholarship Fund is for.

Every dollar donated goes directly to covering registration costs for families who need help. Not overhead. Not admin. A kid on the court.

If you're able and willing, we'd be grateful for any amount — one-time or monthly, whatever works for you. Set It Off Volleyball is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, your gift is tax-deductible, and because we use Zeffy, 100% of your donation reaches the club.

And if giving isn't in the cards right now, sharing this post genuinely helps just as much. Season two starts November 7. Let's fill the gym. 🏐

Too often, families face two extremes: recreational leagues that offer fun but little structure for long-term growth, and elite clubs that demand significant…

Meet Coach Courtney! 🏐

Courtney started playing volleyball during her tender years of middle school. She continued playing throughout high school, recreationally while attending Iowa State University, and on to co-ed leagues as an adult. She’s currently an active league member, which keeps her both active and continually working on her skills as a player. She enjoys the camaraderie of a team effort, but most importantly considers herself a competitor. Growing up, she enjoyed playing all sports, but volleyball is one that has always stuck with her.

Courtney first learned about Set It Off Volleyball through a friend and fellow team member. What piqued her interest was how her friend described the program’s values in teaching fundamentals and the goals of developing young athletes — something Courtney has always been passionate about.

As a first-year coach, she hopes to inspire young athletes. Her coaching philosophy focuses on building teamwork, understanding the importance of sportsmanship, and developing self-confidence. She’s looking forward to growing together with her team!

We’re thrilled to have Courtney bring her energy, competitive spirit, and passion for the game to the Set It Off Volleyball coaching team! 🙌

Reis has loved volleyball since she started playing in 5th grade. She participated in club and school volleyball up through her junior year of high school, and loved her time meeting new friends, coaches, and playing her favorite sport!

Reis is inspired to coach athletes to have fun and love the game of volleyball!

We’re thrilled to have Reis bring her energy and passion for the game to the Set It Off Volleyball coaching team! 🙌

Meet Coach Abby! 🏐

Volleyball has always been Abby's favorite sport. She played as a front-row hitter throughout high school and continued playing recreationally in Ames while attending Iowa State, where she won two intramural sand volleyball championships. She's excited to share her love of the game with the next generation!

Abby's journey with Set It Off began as a volleyball mom when her daughter joined the club. Seeing the impact the coaches had on the girls sparked her interest in coaching and inspired her to help create that same experience for other young athletes. Her goal is to help every player work hard, build confidence, encourage their teammates, and have fun along the way.

When she's not in the gym, Abby works for the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, where she is passionate about public health and improving the health of Iowans. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, staying active, and creating fun 3D-printing projects. As a first-year coach, she's looking forward to learning alongside her athletes, celebrating their progress, and creating a team environment where every player feels encouraged, supported, and excited to come to practice.

We're thrilled to have Abby bring her energy, heart, and passion for the game to the Set It Off Volleyball coaching team! 🙌

Meet Coach Kendra! 🏐

Kendra has been passionate about volleyball since she started playing in 4th grade. Throughout middle school and high school, she played school and club ball and has such fond memories of the sport! Volleyball has been a huge part of her life, and she can’t wait to watch the next generation’s love for the game grow.

She’s excited to teach her athletes that volleyball is not just a game, but a community! Her goal for every athlete is simply to have fun and enjoy the game.

We’re thrilled to have Kendra bring her passion, experience, and heart to the Set It Off Volleyball coaching team! 🙌

That's a wrap on the 2026 Set It Off Volleyball Summer Camp! 🏐

Five days. Three courts. 58 campers. And an absolutely amazing group of girls.

We watched players who could barely keep a ball in the air on Monday finish the week stringing three hits together and calling for the ball like they'd been doing it for years. We heard "MINE!" echo across the gym. We saw kids cheering for teammates they'd only just met.

We ran a few laps over a stray "yours." We signed a whole lot of shirts. And nobody beat Coach Matt in a race — though several came close.

To our coaching staff — thank you for showing up every single morning with energy these girls could feel.

And to our families — thank you for trusting us with your daughters this week. Every one of them was a joy to be around. That's not a line. We mean it.

See you on the court. 💛

Set It Off Volleyball is looking for 2 more coaches for our upcoming season, and we’d love your help finding them.

We’re a West Des Moines youth club serving girls in grades 3–7. Our waitlist is growing and we want to say yes to as many players as we can — but we need the right people on the sidelines to do it.

These are paid positions.

The ideal fit: someone who loves the game, is great with kids, and wants to help young athletes build skills and confidence. Playing or coaching experience is a plus, but the biggest thing we’re looking for is character.

Know someone who’d be great? Tag them below, share this post, or send us a message. Referrals from our own community have brought us some of our best coaches.

Meet Coach Kirby! 🏐

Kirby has been playing volleyball since elementary school and competed all the way through high school. She kept the game close during college, playing intramurals and coaching middle school volleyball while earning her bachelor’s degree at UNI, and later coached with Girls on the Run while completing her graduate degree at Iowa. Coaching has always been close to her heart — she had coaches who helped shape who she is today, and she’s forever grateful for the role they played in her life.

Some of you may already know Kirby from behind the camera! She photographed events and team and individual photos for SIOV last year, and after seeing firsthand how the program was run and the values it teaches, she knew it was one she wanted to be part of. Now she’s excited to be on the court helping athletes learn the game, build their skills, and grow a lasting love for volleyball.

Off the court, Kirby is a former Child Life Specialist at Blank Children’s Hospital turned full-time photographer, and she and her family recently welcomed their third child. They love staying active together and teaching their kids that teamwork and sportsmanship matter everywhere — not just in sports.

We’re thrilled to have Kirby bring her experience, warmth, and heart to the Set It Off Volleyball coaching team! 🙌

Meet Coach Kelsie! 🏐

Kelsie is an active league player who loves the game and is excited to share that passion with the next generation of athletes at Set It Off Volleyball.

Her connection to SIOV runs deep. Her daughters are part of the program, and watching them grow in confidence, sharpen their skills, and fall in love with volleyball is what inspired her to step into coaching.

That passion for young people carries over from her professional life, too. Kelsie works in the juvenile justice field, where she's dedicated to supporting and encouraging youth. Whether she's with students during the school day or on the court at practice, she loves helping kids build confidence, work through challenges, and celebrate their growth. She's excited to bring that same positive energy to SIOV, creating an environment where young female athletes can grow, support one another, and have fun doing it.

We're thrilled to have Kelsie bring her heart, encouragement, and enthusiasm to the Set It Off Volleyball coaching team! 🙌
