Seattle’s Emily Zumwinkle activated. The Frost play Seattle Wednesday. Will Grace Zumwinkle be back from day-to-day injury to play for the first ever sibling rivalry in the PWHL?

Playoff math: What do the Frost need to clinch?

With six games left, the Frost need seven points. That would give us more points than four other teams can earn, locking us in.

That's the path to the Frost controlling their own destiny. It gets easier as other teams lose, lowering their maximum points. For example, if Ottawa loses tonight, their max drops to 48, and we only need six points to clinch. (There might be an even earlier clinch with tie-breaker scenarios, but that gets complicated.)

Big shocking trade! OK, not that shocking since the Frost are in desperate need of defense and they have offense to spare.

It sucks to lose Denisa Křížová—again! (remember she went to Vancouver over the summer, but came back in a trade for draft pick Anna Segedi just days before the season started). But with just 1 goal and 4 assists this year, she's not a high producing forward.

And the Frost need help on defense. That's been the team's weakness of late, getting hemmed into their own zone or making bad passes. Plus Natalie Buchbinder being day-to-day with an injury, and the team needs some help. We'll see if this does it.

Fun fact: This means the Toronto Sceptres are now the only PWHL team that doesn't have a former Frosty on the roster.

Trade alert 🚨

The Minnesota Frost have acquired defender Jincy Roese from New York in exchange for forward Denisa Křížová.

Thoughts on this afternoon’s game…

Big game with the Frost coming off getting shut out by Montreal. And Boston on a three-game shutout streak (?!).

We’re in a good place for points, but need more to secure that playoff spot. More importantly, how do we fare against the best in the league?

I’ll be watching former Frosty Liz Schepers who had a two-goal game Friday for Boston. Rookie defender Haley Winn is another to watch.

Sounds like Fleet’s rookie goalie Amanda Thiele will make her PWHL debut today. So no Frankel (whew).

Will Natalie Buchbinder play after a lower body injury in Wednesdays game? Sounds like the injury wasn’t as bad as it looked, though you’d also like to see a player get a chance to heal up a bit.

And Coyne Schofield? Breaking news: She’ll return in today’s game! Will she be at full strength or will it take her some time to get back to form?

Finally, PWHL news says Boston can clinch a playoff spot with one point today. Not sure how that math works (they’re at 48, fifth place is at 30 with 24 points available??), but wouldn’t it be nice to keep Boston from clinching.

The Athletic covered the post-Olympics bump that has the PWHL thriving right now: Attendance is up 23%, player follows on social media are up 38%, merchandise sales are up over 100%, YouTube subscribes are up over 200%, and the league’s web traffic is six times higher than it was before the Olympics.

“It’s the first time that as Olympians, the players post-Olympics had a place to go back to to play the game at a professional level,” said PWHL executive vice president of business operations Amy Scheer. “We knew this moment was going to be big for us—and felt that this could be a game changer for us.”
