June 7 is National Boone Day,
Most folks remember the coonskin cap from grade school. I remember the part they skip: Boone wasn't trying to be a hero. He was trying to find a way through. Daniel Boone first stepping into Kentucky's valleys back in 1769. The Kentucky Historical Society has kept the date alive for over 140 years, and it's less about coonskin caps and more about that restless pull to see what's over the next ridge. Daniel Boone reached the Cumberland Gap with the help of Native Americans and began blazing what would later become the famous Wilderness Road. This trail paved the way for westward expansion and the first permanent Anglo-American settlements in Kentucky.
We all know the feeling when u see the next ridge, and wonder what’s over there? My answer to that is go see!!!!
