The West Middlesex Varsity Big Reds Defeat Lakeview Varsity Sailors Behind Strong Performance From Harper Nickel (Waynesburg)

Harper Nickel (Waynesburg) struck out 14 batters as the pitcher led West Middlesex Varsity Big Reds past Lakeview Varsity Sailors 12-4 on Thursday. Nickel (Waynesburg) surrendered five hits and four runs over seven innings while walking one.
Lakeview Varsity Sailors jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, and a passed ball scored two runs.
West Middlesex Varsity Big Reds jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Nickel (Waynesburg) tripled to center field, Allison Blanton tripled down the left field line, Lila Kimmel tripled to center field, Lakeview Varsity Sailors committed an error, Haley Gioan doubled down the left field line, and Lakeview Varsity Sailors committed an error, each scoring one run.
West Middlesex Varsity Big Reds scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashley Perline doubled, scoring one run, Blanton doubled, scoring one run, Gioan singled, scoring two runs, and Nevaeh Lapcevich grounded out, scoring one run.
Megan Haun started in the circle for Lakeview Varsity Sailors. The starter allowed two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out one and walking three.
Blanton, Kimmel, and Gioan each collected two hits for West Middlesex Varsity Big Reds. Gioan went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Kimmel led West Middlesex Varsity Big Reds with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. Kimmel stole two bases.
Gracie Harbaugh and Natalie Sheirer were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Lakeview Varsity Sailors. Harbaugh led Lakeview Varsity Sailors with one run batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-4 on the day.
