Hadley, RJ, and Forrest (9th graders) taking leadership roles by starting out the summer workouts! Really proud of you three for going to the workouts this week. This is just the start of the journey.

Let's see if you can motivate others to join in. Putting in work when nobody else is makes champions.

So you can prepare for camp, here is what we’ll be doing. You’ll notice it’s divided into Day 1 and Day 2. You should also notice how much you’re going to shoot both days. Don’t come Day 1 and start complaining about your fingers/shoulders/arms hurting. Prepare now or embrace the suck and power thru it. But don’t complain to us.

Preparation:
Monday, Wednesday: shoot 3 sets of 5 arrows at a BLANK target (no scoring), 10m and 15m (this is a mechanics/form drill). Shoot 3 sets of 5 at a BLANK target at 10m and 15m with an aim point (duct tape works). Concentrate on getting small (5”) groups.

Friday- shoot 3 sets of 5 at 10m and 15m with the target face on. Concentrate on grouping. Shoot a scoring round (with practice ends).

Score 1 time per week. Work on form, mechanics and process. Video yourself, critique yourself. Post up questions.

Today Coach Roberts, Coach Gifford and myself went out to Irmo and unloaded 24 brand new Block targets for next year. There are also 360 brand new arrows ready and waiting for competition, all for you guys. We told you that from our perspective, nothing is more important than preparation. And proper preparation needs the best equipment.

Coach Roberts will address what will happen at camp soon but we are stepping up the game for this coming year. Our goal is to add our names to the long list of athletic programs who have “state champion” beside their names. And we expect that to be everyone's goal. If not, then you have a choice to make. You had a year to adjust and learn, now its game on! It is about competition, it is about winning and losing and it is all about you being the best you can be.

When we walk on the range this year, we will be the best equipped, best prepared and will battle to the very end. Our goal is to come out on top each time. We are so looking forward to the new year, I hope you are too!

Here is an update on our overall results here at the Eastern Nationals, the largest and most important Archery tournament in the world. Let me say I am sure I speak for all the coaches that we could not be more proud of you and happy to be associated with War Eagle Archery. You made some history this weekend.

For the high school, although we did not have enough for a team bullseye score, we still had the first National award winner for the GCA War Eagle Archery team when Emory Roberts placed 2nd in a three way tie and just 1 point from tying for first place. It was awesome to see her up on the stage as a national winner. She was 2nd out of 2697 girls in the event and 2nd of 694 10th grade girls. I am also proud as a head coach to have seen a second archer on one of my teams walk across the national stage as a top 5 finisher.
In 3D for the hs team we placed 81st out of 225 teams. We had 1 PR score and was 4th amongst all hs teams in SC. We were also just 8 points out of 3rd, 11 points out of 2nd and 28 points out of 1st for SC teams. That was a great performance. Emory also placed 9th overall with a 291.

For the MS team it was a really great day. In Bullseye we had a team record score of 3250. That was 2nd place for SC teams and 25th out of 249 teams participating. We had 5 PR scores and Titus Boulware placed 10th overall out of 2733 other male archers and 6th out of 849 8th grade males.

And in 3D we struggled overall but still had a 1619 score which was 2nd in SC scores and 33rd out of 207 teams overall. We still had 2 PR scores as well.

Overall a fantastic three days for our team and again, the best is yet to come. We're gonna rebuild the MS team for next year and we have some awesome 8th graders coming up who are really going to elevate our HS scores. I am ready to get started now!
