TSU parents and players, our coaches and officials have received several complaints about the games being cancelled yesterday. A few issues were 'why was it done on such short notice' and 'I thought socer was played in the mud'. First let me say I am sorry for having to cancel games at all with the beautify weather we did have yesterday. The issues with the field itself when our field coordinator checked them at 6:00am were that on each field they were still 50% or more under water and covered with a thin layer of ice due to the overnight temperatures. With the amount of water that was on the fields and the low winds, it would not improve by 10:30 when games would have started. The much standing water with saugy fields causes kids to turn ankles and damage knees as well as it takes aware from actually playing soccer. If there are isolated puddles or even if the fields turn sloppy as we are playing we will usually continue. For the other point as to why the cancellation came out so late, we wait until the ay of to cancel games due to our ever unreliable weather prediction in this area. Yes we got a lot of rain durin gthe week and we already thought there was a good chance we would need to cancel games but if between Friday evening and Saturday morning we had strong enough winds, the fields could have dried out enough to play. We as the league officials and coaches schedule our weeks around games, practices and field maintenance and would like to give every opportunity possible to get games in as scheduled. In addition to this, there seemed to be an issue with the notification system though email yesterday. The cancellation notice was sent at 7:00am however delivery seemed to be sporadic with some people not getting it at all while other received it a full 5 hours later. We will be discussing this with Affinity to see if there were any known issues with their delivery system yesterday, however that is out of our control. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to getting games underway.
