The Padres and Braves squared off in a classic championship game in the majors division Thursday night.
The Braves-Rue staked out to a 1-0 lead until the 4th inning, when the Padres-Schick scored two runs to take the lead. They held onto a 3-1 lead until the 6th, when the Braves tied it up with a 2-out rally. The Padres were able to walk it off in the bottom of the sixth. What a game !
Porter Schick had 12ks in 5 innings of work, holding the Braves to just 3 hits. Bubba Garcia and Zach Decker combined for five of the Padres’ eight hits. Parker Robarge caught all six innings and scored the game-winning run.
Mason Rue pitched admirably for the Braves, with 9ks in 4.2 innings.
Most importantly, the two teams competed with respect for each other and the game. With so many friends on the opposing teams and stands, it made for a competitive game with hugs at the end. Congrats to the Padres on the regular season & tournament championships, and to the Braves on a great season.
And congrats to all the 12-year-olds who played their last rec games on the lower fields. It was a bittersweet night for all involved, as some great (and final) memories were made.
Have a great summer, boys!
