At XIT, we know that even though the recipient mare doesn't change the foal's DNA sequence, her stress levels, nutrition, and metabolic state dictate epigenetics (which genes are turned on or off.) That’s why our breeding program incorporates low-stress stockmanship and animal husbandry tactics with our recips. The origin of the XIT is tied directly to Texas history. In 1879, the Texas Legislature set aside three million acres of land in the Panhandle to fund the construction of the new state Capitol building in Austin. Brothers Charles B. and John V. Farwell established the ranch to manage and utilize this massive expanse, creating a cattle operation on a scale the West had never seen before.

It is not very often you see a 5 or 6 year old at the top of the Open Horse of the Year Chart, but LBR Hangem 'Shotty' has unofficially jumped to the top the chart after another stellar performance at the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Derby. This 6-Year-Old stallion owned by Carpenter Farms, Don Ham & Solo Select Horses, and shown by Kenny Platt Cutting Horses, has been on fire all year.
