At VOC, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day by honoring the Cherokee people, our heritage, our traditions, and the values that continue to guide our community.
The Seven Cherokee Core Values (Spirituality, Group Harmony, Strong Character, Sense of Place, Honoring the Past, Educating for the Future, and a Sense of Humor) are reflected in so much of what we do in our day program and throughout our community.
•We honor our sense of place by recognizing the land, history, and people who have shaped the place we call home.
•We honor the past while educating for the future, helping our individuals learn, grow, build connections, and take pride in who they are and where they come from.
•And, of course, we share plenty of laughter, friendship, kindness, and moments that remind us how special our VOC family is!
We practice GaDuGi (working together for the common good) by supporting one another, helping in our community, and finding meaningful ways to contribute.
Not everyone at VOC is Indigenous, but everyone has a place in our community. We are proud to learn from one another, celebrate Cherokee culture together, and build a community rooted in respect, belonging, and appreciation for our shared home.
Being part of VOC means celebrating who we are, honoring where we come from, and growing together.
Today and every day, we are proud to be part of the Cherokee community.
