Hack Wilson was a husky booze hound who loved to raise hell. His manager would often bail him out of jail just before first pitch. A 5’6” brick sh*****se, Hack said he never played drunk, just hungover pretty much every day. He was rowdy. He loved to fight and cuss. Don’t mess with him when he’s been on that stump wh**ky. He’d beat up other players during the game and after the game. He said if anyone thought he was yellow, he was gonna show them they were wrong. He beat up some Reds players for calling him a bastard. Dropped one of them in the dugout and a couple more at the train station. Right there on the tracks.

I think Albert Belle is the most misunderstood baseball player. He was an elite hitter, a great teammate, and had a competitive fire that you couldn’t teach. If you wanted a player on your team that would push others to be better, lead through hard work, and put winning above everything, Albert’s your guy. At his peak, I’d take him over every other ‘90s slugger, with the exception of Frank Thomas. I like his makeup, his drive to succeed, and his ferociousness on the ball field.
