There’s a subtle habit that can make a strong recommendation sound less certain than you intended.
You make your point…
and then immediately hand it back to the room:
“But what do you think?”
There’s nothing wrong with inviting discussion. The difference is when you do it.
State your recommendation first. Give people the reason behind it. Then open the conversation.
“My recommendation is that we move forward with this approach. Here’s why.”
That small shift communicates something important:
I’ve thought this through.
I have a point of view.
I’m willing to stand behind it.
You can be collaborative without giving away your authority.
