Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting our 3rd Annual 🎓Graduation on Wheels. A new tradition in our community, this event celebrates years of support from YOU, our riders, as well as our sponsors and community partners. 💙
The program gifts bicycles to second-graders from DC Public Schools in Wards 7 and 8 as a way to celebrate their latest accomplishment - the completion of their PE curriculum to learn how to ride a bike. All 300 participating students received their very own bike, helmet, lock, and a pass to come ride with you, our riders, on September 12. 🚲😎
There are so many people to thank for helping bring this one-of-a-kind event to life. First and foremost, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. From providing students with swag and Metro cards (to travel to this year’s bike ride) to the more than 100 volunteers who came out to build and gift bikes, we could not do it without you. An extra special thank you to our other partners: Events DC, JK Moving Services, Conte's Bike Shop, for the important roles they played in making this event possible.
To our municipal partners, from Mayor Bowser’s Office to each PE teacher who took the time to teach students this valuable skill: THANK YOU! Your care and commitment will help shape the next generation of leaders (and lifelong cyclists, of course).
Since its inception, the program has benefited over 600 students who got to take home their very own bikes... and we can only hope to keep growing from here. When you support the DC Bike Ride as a participant or partner, you are supporting our community. Thank you, and see you at the start line this September 12.
