LeadIN We are all leaders. We seek to redefine leadership. Leadership is not based on position, title, or formal authority.

It’s not about being a hero, exuding strength and knowing all the answers. LeadIN enables you to become the leader you are. LeadIN brings people together to learn, share, and grow their leadership. Your leadership is like a muscle - it requires constant exercise and practice. So we offer you a gym: a community with endless opportunities to turn talents into strengths, grow the leader within, and create the change you seek, in yourself, in your community and around the world.

Start off the new year with this LeadIN+ workshop that will help you build a professional story that feels authentic and impactful.

To some, networking is a buzzword that only feels relevant when navigating a job search. To others, networking is a part of everyday life -- both at work and beyond.

Whether you are in a role that you love or seeking new opportunities -- your network matters. Before you can think about growing your network though, it’s important to craft your story. What do you want people to know about you? How do you want them to remember you?

The process of building your professional story is part reflective exercise and part planning for the future. In this one hour interactive session, join LeadIN alum and career coach Lisa Dubler (she/her), as she walks participants through the process of building a professional story that feels authentic and impactful. After our story building work is complete, Lisa will share practical networking tips based on her career coaching and HR experience so you can hit the ground running.

Start off the new year with this LeadIN+ workshop that will help you build a professional story that feels authentic and impactful.

Day #5 Reflection - "You Too Can Learn and Get Better at Stuff"

"Learning is a function of belief, motivation, time, effort, approach, and a little bit of help from others:
- Belief: do you believe that you can learn that skill / knowledge / thing?
- Motivation: why do you want to learn that skill / knowledge / thing?
- Time: how much time will you invest to learn that skill / knowledge / thing?
- Effort: how much effort will you put toward learning that skill / knowledge / thing?
- Approach: how will you go about learning that skill? Do you have a set goal? A way to measure progress? A way to get feedback? How will you refine your approach when you get stuck?
- Community: who could you enlist to support you, cheer you on, hold you accountable, coach you?
"

All of this is still very relevant. I think that today I'd say that the last point "community" is even more important than it has ever been.

What do you want to learn next year?

This blog post is part of a series on growth mindset. You can read the next one here. I had a “C” in organic chemistry in high school. I was proud. I didn’t like the teacher so I decided I wouldn’t study or put any effort. I didn’t like chemistry so I thought there was

Day #4 Reflection - "How to Become and Effective Manager"

Apparently, I started with these lessons:

"
Lesson # 1 – feeling excited and petrified at the same time is not a contradiction or a cause for concern.

Lesson # 2 – it’s okay to struggle.

Lesson # 3 – recognize that being a manager is different from whatever you were doing before.

Lesson # 4 – figure out what’s different about being a manager."

Now I am reflecting on this question: "what if we created a world where no one needs to have a boss, and no one needs to be a boss?"

What are your thoughts?

“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” This is one of many famous quotes you will stumble upon if you read about management. Yet this blog post is not about leadership vs. management or about theory and definitions. It’s about the practical reality that 80% o...

Day #3 Reflection - "Becoming You"

"
Everyone can be a leader. Being a leader starts with leading yourself, with becoming you.

Step 1: (Re)Discover Who You Are

Step 2: Tap Into Your Passions

Step 3: Never stop learning (about yourself and others)
"
All this sounds good in theory; it is easy to say "oh, anyone can do that", however, we absolutely have to acknowledge that in reality, in this world we live in, it's not equally easy for everyone. In fact, it could be much harder for all sorts of people through no fault of their own but because of structural divides along race, gender, etc.

So the question is no longer "how do you become you?" It's more about "how do we foster a world where everyone can become who they want to be?"

So how do we do that?

Everyone can be a leader. Being a leader starts with leading yourself, with becoming you. This blog post it’s about realizing that you can be a leader in your own unique way, finding out what that looks like, and crafting your unique leadership mold.

Day #2 Reflection - "Believing in People"

"Labeling people comes easily. I do it all the time, even though conceptually, I know I shouldn’t. It’s an impulse we all have to fight. Getting to know people – their strengths, their interests, their passions, what keeps them up at night – that reveals more than what time they show up to work, or how quickly they respond to emails. People are special. We only have to take the time to recognize what’s special about each and every one of them.

Next time you are quick to judge someone, take a step back, open your heart, and learn about who they are."

We are even quicker to judge, quicker to get upset or angry, quicker to dismiss and hurt each other. I've been delving into Theory U in recent time, and this blog is a wonderful reminder to develop key capacities such as "open will", "open heart" and "open will".

How are you developing these capacities in yourself?

Believing in people is hard but it is very important if you want to become a leader. Next time you are quick to judge someone, take a step back, open your heart, and learn about who they are.
