Safe Kids coalitions are grassroots collaborations between individuals and organizations in a community that conduct multifaceted childhood injury prevention efforts. Safe Kids works to provide parents and kids with helpful hints and tools to keep children safe in areas of road safety, sports safety, fire and drowning preve

ntion to name a few. In the past 25 years Safe Kids programs and efforts around the country have help reduce the number of childhood deaths due to unintentional injuries by more than 50%. What did Safe Kids North Coast accomplish? Safe Kids North Coast was a very active coalition from 2008 through 2013. The attached Safe Kids North Coast report from 2012 illustrates the good work that was done in our community and the partner organizations that helped make it happen. Preventable injuries are still the number one cause of death for children in the United States. In Clatsop County between 2010 and 2012, there were five fatalities and 48 hospitalizations of children under 19 years.
