Tomorrow morning we’re doing this LIVE. 🎤

No More Straining When You Sing
Thursday, Sept 3 @ 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM UK

We’re going to spend 60 focused minutes breaking down what’s actually happening when the voice starts to strain — breath, vocal fold closure, compression, resonance, register coordination — and, more importantly, how I use targeted exercises to actually train those things.

Then I’m staying on afterward for an extended LIVE Q&A so we can dig into your questions.

Your registration also includes training you can start using immediately, the complete Fix the Break Blueprint, the workshop replay, and the opportunity to send me a recording of YOUR voice so I can personally listen and give you some direction on what I hear.

If you’ve been thinking about joining me, tomorrow’s the day.

👉 Hit the link in my bio for all the details and to grab your ticket.

And if you can’t make the live time, no problem — the replay is included.

If you strain when you sing higher, this video is for you.

A lot of big vocal phrases — ones that start low and go high, or vice versa — may seem like one single voice. But actually, it’s a map of registers stitched together so smoothly it SOUNDS like one voice.

I use anchor words to feel it: chest, chest, chest… mix, mix… chest, chest, chest. Your voice is constantly shifting — you’ve just trained it to sound seamless.

Two tools from the video to actually practice this:

First tip: The “mum” exercise. Pouty, a little whiny, almost like crying. “Mum, mum, mum, mum.” It feels silly, but it sneaks your voice into that mixed, compressed place without strain. I use it to find a hard note — that’s an A4 in the video — and then shape real words around the same sensation. If thinking about the lyrics makes you tense up, sing “mum” first, then swap the words back in.

Second tip: The suspended breath. Watch my hand in the video — breathe in, hold it, then vocalize from that held place. That little exaggerated exhale at the end? That’s me showing you I’ve still got gas in the tank. That leftover air and control is often exactly what’s missing from your high notes.

Try it on your own tough phrase. Map the registers. Find the mix. Keep the air back. You may be surprised how much more stable those notes get.

And if strain is something you keep running into, I’m doing an entire LIVE online workshop on this Thursday, September 3rd called:

NO MORE STRAINING WHEN YOU SING

We’re going to spend 60 focused minutes breaking down what causes strain, how things like breath support, vocal fold closure, compression, resonance, and register coordination work together, and how I choose specific exercises for the problem in front of me.

Then I’m staying on afterward for an extended LIVE Q&A.

Your ticket also includes my Workshop Prep Kit, the full Fix the Break Blueprint, the replay, and a Personalized Vocal Snapshot where you can send me a recording and I’ll personally give you some direction on what I’m hearing in your voice.

Want a better vocal tone?

Find the balance between Yogi Bear and Bugs Bunny. 😂👇

I’m serious.

🐻 Yogi Bear gives you that darker, heavier, more swallowed quality.

🐰 Bugs Bunny gives you the opposite: bright, forward, nasal, almost obnoxiously buzzy.

Neither one is necessarily the sound you want to sing with.

But both can be incredibly useful exaggerations.

Because great vocal tone usually isn’t about finding one magical “placement.”

It’s about learning how to adjust the ingredients.

Too much Yogi and the voice can get woofy, heavy, covered, or stuck.

Too much Bugs and it can get thin, nasal, or overly bright.

But when you learn how to move between those extremes and find the balance?

That’s where you start discovering a tone that feels powerful, clear, resonant AND free.

And this idea goes way beyond tone.

A lot of vocal strain happens because something in the system is simply out of balance.

Too much pressure.
Too much air.
Too much weight.
Not enough closure.
The wrong resonance strategy for the note you’re trying to sing.

And that’s exactly what we’re digging into next week.

I’m doing something new next week 👇

On Thursday, September 3rd, I’m hosting a LIVE online vocal workshop called:

NO MORE STRAINING WHEN YOU SING

This is for the singer who feels like certain notes take way too much effort… who finds themselves pushing, tightening up, losing consistency, or just not knowing what they should actually be practicing to fix the problem.

We’re going to spend 60 focused minutes breaking down what’s happening when the voice strains and how I think about training the voice when something is out of balance.

We’ll get into things like:

🎯 Vocal fold closure
🎯 Breath support and airflow
🎯 Compression
🎯 Resonance
🎯 Register coordination
🎯 How to choose exercises for the actual problem you’re trying to solve

And then we’ll take those ideas into real songs, because that’s ultimately where all of this needs to work.

One of my favorite ways to coach is to take a difficult phrase, put the right vocal exercise directly over the melody, establish the coordination we want, and then bring the lyrics back in without losing that setup.

That’s a big part of what we’ll be doing.

The main workshop is 60 minutes, and I’ll stay on afterward for an extended LIVE Q&A so we can dig into your questions too.

But I also wanted this to be more than just an hour on Zoom.

When you register, you immediately get my No More Straining Workshop Prep Kit, including:

🔥 Staccato “Ahs” Vocal Workout
🔥 Fry’d Guhs Vocal Workout
🔥 Complete 7-Day Fix the Break Blueprint

So you can actually start training before we ever meet live.

And every ticket also includes a Personalized Vocal Snapshot.

You’ll be able to send me a short recording of your voice, I’ll personally listen to it, and I’ll give you some direction on what I’m hearing and what I think you should focus on next.

Thursday, September 3rd
10 AM Pacific / 1 PM Eastern / 6 PM UK
LIVE online over Zoom

And if you can’t make the live time, your ticket still includes the full workshop replay.

I’ve put everything together at the link in my bio.

Would love to have you there! 🎤

When I broke my femur last year, getting into physical therapy was a huge part of getting back to normal.

A good physical therapist doesn’t just look at a weak leg and hand you a dumbbell for shoulder presses. They identify what actually needs work, then give you specific exercises that target those weak spots.

Singing works the same way.

If you’re struggling with a certain phrase, high note, or part of your range, the answer usually isn’t to just “warm up” with random exercises. The goal is to use the right exercise for the specific coordination you’re trying to build.

That’s why I like to think of vocal exercises as surgical tools. Different sounds help target different placements, registrations, and coordinations.

If you want a structured way to train your voice like this, check out my 30-Day Vocal Growth Blueprint. I put a bunch of these exercises in a strategic order to help you strengthen and rebalance the voice over time.

08/28/2026

Every vocal exercise has a purpose. 👇

The goal isn’t just to get good at making weird sounds.

The goal is to understand what each exercise is helping your voice do — and then bring that same coordination into your actual singing.

🎯 Some exercises help you find better cord closure
🎯 Some help reduce unnecessary tension
🎯 Some help you access resonance or twang
🎯 Some help balance chest and head voice
🎯 Some help you build compression, control, or stability

But the real progress happens when you start connecting the dots.

Instead of thinking:

“Here’s an exercise I’m supposed to practice.”

You start thinking:

“Okay… THIS is the feeling I’m trying to bring into the song.”

That’s when vocal exercises become much more than a warm-up.

They become tools you can use to actually change the way you sing.

And the better you understand what each tool is doing, the more effectively you can train your own voice.

That’s also a huge part of what we do inside the 12 Week Vocal Intensive — figuring out exactly what your voice needs, why we’re training it, and how to transfer that work into real songs.

What if you could stretch your chest voice to hit those top notes—and control your breath all the way down? 👇

👉 Many singers struggle with reaching high chest notes and then losing breath control on the way down.
👉 Here’s the key mindset I teach:

You don’t just stretch chest voice up—you keep your support steady as you decrescendo, even when your voice gets breathy.

💡 Why does this work?
Because maintaining support through the diaphragm and engaging your pelvic floor keeps your breath and tone connected. Even when the vocal folds get a little breathy, your steady support means you don’t lose control or power.

✅ Stretch chest voice to reach higher notes
✅ Maintain breath and tone while decrescendoing
✅ Hold control and avoid losing air at the top and bottom of phrases
