Klaus is 106 years old and still going strong. Thanks for the inspiration!

Klaus's 100th birthday secret, in full: swim before breakfast, hit the gym, wipe the mirror clean, and decide right then what kind of day you're going to have.

Back in 2019, when Klaus Obermeyer turned 100, The Aspen Times asked him for his secret. He gave it up without much fuss: swim a half mile before breakfast, get to the gym, and every morning, before anything else, wipe the mirror clean.

That last part was the real answer. Klaus called it the mirror of perception, the choice you make every single day about whether to see the mountain, the weather, and the whole business of getting older as something to love or something to dread. He picked love. Every morning, on purpose.

Nearly eighty years since he first strapped into skis in Aspen, that's still the whole philosophy behind everything we make.

Don't know about you, but we're choosing fun too. What's your version of wiping the mirror clean before the day starts?

Triple Cities Ski Club Paddle by Doreen Rowe with Jill Darling

On August 5th a small group gathered for an evening paddle on Whitney Point Lake at Dorchester Park. My daughter Amy joined me on this club event to celebrate our very close birthdays together. I also brought along my Toy Poodle, Bailey, with me for the paddle.

Our leader, Jill Darling, unfortunately ended up not getting there for the paddle as she was stuck in a 30-minute standstill on the highway due to an accident in Apalachin. By the time she arrived, she opted to wait on the bank for the paddlers to return since is was so late. Luckily, she made it in time for our Ice Cream tradition at Scoops. Bailey enjoyed his “Pup Cup” ice cream!

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our founder, mentor and friend, Allen R. “Al” Kryger.

For more than six decades, Al devoted his life to Greek Peak Mountain Resort and to growing the sport of skiing throughout New York and beyond. His vision, innovation and love for this mountain helped shape Greek Peak into the community it is today and touched generations of guests, employees and ski industry leaders.

His legacy lives on in every chairlift ride, every first turn, every family tradition and every unforgettable memory made here. Thank you, Al, for showing us what was possible. We will continue creating memories in your honor.

A celebration of Al’s life will be held Saturday, August 1, from 11 am to 2 pm in the Acropolis Room at Greek Peak. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life so well lived.
