They say “knowing” is half the battle. The other half is executing.

A quality at-bat (QAB) is recorded when a hitter fulfills positive offensive contributions during a plate appearance, regardless of whether they get a hit. Generally, there are seven ways to record one:
Base on Balls: Drawing a walk.
Hit by Pitch (HBP): Reaching base after being struck by a pitch.
6+ Pitch At-Bat: Forcing the pitcher to throw at least six pitches, even if it ends in a strikeout or an out.
Hard Out: Hitting a hard-hit ball or "barrel" that results in an out due to good defense.
Productive Out: Driving in a run with less than two outs, or advancing a runner from second to third base with zero outs.
Sacrifice: Executing a successful sacrifice bunt or sacrifice fly.
Base Hit +: Reaching base safely via a single, double, triple, or home run.

Notice how only one of these increases your batting average. Why are people so obsessed with batting average? Learn to appreciate the process, and your perspective of success will be sharper.

Thank you everyone who participated in our program tryouts. If your player didn’t make a roster, encourage them to keep plugging away and foster that love of the game. Players grow and develop at different rates. Take MLB great, Mark Buehrle, for example. He was a World Series champion and 5-time All-Star pitcher. He was cut from his high school team twice during his freshman and sophomore years. He nearly quit the sport entirely before bouncing back to put together a stellar 16-year MLB career. 👊🏼
