To help great coaches develop kids, the parent environment needs to be healthy for proper support. You don't see this issue much in many other countries. They need to have an understanding of the development process, especially with kids that are less talented or perhaps late bloomers. As much as parents talk about we want development, the culture and emotional distress continues to consume most parents if the "TEAM" is not winning (speaking in general terms, country wise). That's an entire episode in itself. I think more youth soccer coaches at clubs need to also adopt the evaluation process of parents. Most great coaches will take a less talented player with potential with great family support structure over a talented player that comes with a drama oriented mom/and/or/dad. Many coaches are afraid to speak out to this... I am in meetings and work groups almost DAILY for many years with top coaches around the nation. No great coach that has a development curriculum want to deal with parents on a weekly basis asking about playing time issues, position player plays, talking about other players on the team, sideline coaching, complaining, bashing... It's unfortunately part of the profession, but, it doesn't really have to be......... When your team wins, you are a HERO. When the team loses, we need to jump ship. This is the unfortunate culture of youth sports today, instant gratification. If you have to tell your financial advisor how to run your portfolio every time there is a shift, then why are you paying them to run your portfolio?
HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
