This weekend we play for Lauren! 💜🥎💜

Lauren’s Story:

In early summer 2019, 11-year-old, Lauren began to have symptoms that included headaches, vision issues and nausea. Despite several different interventions the symptoms did not subside. In the fall, an MRI was performed and identified a grapefruit-sized tumor in the left frontal lobe of her brain. Shortly thereafter she was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital on a Thursday, in early October, with plans for surgery on Monday morning. Unfortunately, Lauren experienced a stroke that Sunday evening and emergency surgery was necessary. Doctors reported they were able to remove most, if not all, of the tumor, however, the damage caused by the stroke could not be measured. Chemotherapy was decided not to be necessary in the immediate future so that Lauren could focus on immediate rehab and getting stronger. Unfortunately, Lauren experienced complications due to the injury to the brain which required several re-admissions to the hospital for several more procedures and surgeries.

Recovery has been extremely slow. Lauren is unable to speak at this time but has increased alertness and is showing the ability to follow commands i.e. smiling, open/close of mouth, moving eyebrows and light hand squeezes.

The Rippers are scheduled to hit the field Sunday at 9am at Centennial Park West, taking on Lady Mafia in bracket play! 🥎💜🎗️

Honored to support such an important cause 🎗️💜

🚫🌧️ Here is why I truly do NOT want this Nor’easter nearby this weekend.

🥎 USSSA East Coast Events has put together a big girls softball tournament here in Central Maryland.

🎗️This is all to raise awareness for Pediatric Oncology while raising money for Just In Power Kids.
👉🏻 67 teams will be competing at 4 locations this Saturday and Sunday.

😀 I’m excited to be there for the start and want the rain to miss us.

Just In Power Kids Homeruns for Hope Tournament, benefiting Just In Power Kids, a Maryland nonprofit that supports children and families facing pediatric cancer.

From Andy Wisk, one of the organizers from USSSA:

“We know pediatric cancer has touched families within our own softball community, and this weekend is our opportunity to rally around families and show them what the softball community can do. This weekend, we play for more than just softball!

Children battling pediatric cancer will be our #1 softball fans at the park and have opportunities to interact with teams throughout the weekend.

Teams will also be able to raise money directly for Just In Power Kids, with awesome prizes for our top fundraising teams.

And East Coast Events will make a donation of $50 per team on behalf of every team participating in the tournament.

So come play some great softball, help us raise some money, and most importantly, help us give these kids and their families a weekend filled with fun, love and support.

Home Runs for Hope — September 26th and 27th in Central Maryland.”
