We went from 5 runners 2 years ago to 13 runners last year and have grown to 20 runners this year! So we need more uniforms and have larger entry fees to pay! So with that being said:

The Highlander Cross Country teams are selling raffle tickets to win this lottery ticket board! There are over $350 worth of lottery tickets on the board! $5/ticket—Drawing Sept 15th at Big Ditch Invitational-Do not need to be present to win! Must be 18 yrs old to purchase a raffle ticket!

Last night the Webster County Cross Country traveled to Preston County for the Preston Knight Night Relays! We took 3 full relay teams and 2 partial relay teams. We competed against 70 other schools in a 4 person relay where each runner runs 1.5 miles.

The first group on the course was middle school girls. Kadance Adkins took the first leg, followed by Jenna Lewis, Keegan Clark and Brooklyn Blankenship brought it home for 51st place! They also measured their splits and Kadance finished 180th individually with a time of 13:24.9, Jenna was 192nd with a time of 13:40.6, Keegan came in 210th with a time of 14:08.4 and Brooklyn finished 256th with a time of 18:06.0.

The middle school boys were next and our 3 runners and we didn't have a full relay. Re*****on Hamrick finished 115th with a time of 11:07.0, Wyatt Mills finished 179th with a time of 12:00.9, and Martin Miller finished 251st with a time of 13:58.5.

As it started turning dark the High School Girls were next. The Highlanders finished 41st on the night with Sophie Skidmore finished 55th with a time of 10:19.1, Sydney Adkison finished 93rd with a time of 10:59.9, and Izzy Hinely finished 222nd with a time of 18:34.5!

The High School boys had the nightcap starting after 9pm. The Highlanders would finish 34th as a team with Spencer Baird taking the opening leg and running an 8:44.2 for 96th, Asher Lawson ran a 9:18.6 for 161st, Joston Lewis finished in 9:29.0 for 175th, Cullen Brown ran a 9:31.0 for 183rd and Brylan Clayton ran a 9:34.3 for 190th!

The Highlanders will be in action again this upcoming Saturday September 5th at Cabell Midland High School for the Robert's Running XC Festival!

It's not too late to join the Webster County Cross Country Team!!! We are still wanting to add at least 1 more high school girl, 1 more middle school girl and 2 more middle school boys!! We would love to have at least 5 girls on our High School girls team to take a full team to Regionals in October! We would also love to take full Middle School teams to the CWVAC and LKC Middle School Championships! If you are already participating in a fall sport you would only need 5 practices to be able to participate and we would work to make sure it doesn't interfere with the sport you are already playing. If you are interested or know someone that would be interested, have them reach out here on this page or to Coach Brandon Green or you can show up to practice today or tomorrow at Big Ditch Lake right after school!

Sophie Skidmore and Cullen Brown grab individual wins but it's not enough for the Highlanders to overcome Richwood as the Lumberjacks win 1st annual Battle for the Belt!

The day kicked off with a combined Middle School 3K and Richwood took a lead they wouldn't relinquish by going 1-2 in both boys and girls. Re*****on Hamrick was the 1st Highlander to finish in 3rd with a 16:10.46 in his first ever XC race! Martin Miller was next in 5th for the boys with a time of 17:39.25. Kadance Adkins crossed the line next to take 3rd in the girls race with a time of 17:52.03! Wyatt Mills came next on 6th in the boys race with a time of 18:37.06 in his first ever XC race! Jenna Lewis was next in 5th in the girls race with a time of 18:58.62. Keegan Clark was 7th with a new PR of. 20:14.59! Brooklyn Blankenship was 8th with a time of 24:20.12.

The combined High School race was next and Highlanders won each group! Cullen Brown paced the field from start to finish to win the race with a new PR of 18:57.95, beating his previous best time by over 2 minutes! Spencer Baird and Joston Lewis came in neck and neck with Spencer taking the edge unless than a second for 5th with a time of 19:47.79 a new Seasons Best! Joston came in at 19:48.61 also a new Seasons Best Asher Lawson was 7th with a time of 20:11.48 a new PR! Brylan Clayton came in 9th with a time of 21:53.37 a new Seasons Best! Sophie Skidmore crossed the line next to take the girls win with a time of 22:43.01 a new PR! Sydney Adkison was 2nd in the girls race with a time of 24:06.97 a new PR!! Ryatt Bennett was next for 11th and a time of 24:24.69 a new Seasons Best! Kasey Farmer was next in 12th with a time of 24:47.84 a new Seasons Best! Christian Neal was 13th with a time of 24:58.99 in his first ever XC race! Jeremie Cogar was next in 14th with a time of 27:10.88 a new PR! Izzy Hinely finished 7th in girls with a time of 44:19.59 a new PR!

Even though they didn't bring home the Belt it was still a pretty good day for the Highlanders with multiple wins, PRs and SBs! We will be back in action this Saturday night at Preston County High School for the Knight Night Relays!

Webster County!! Tomorrow is your chance to come out and support your Highlander Cross Country teams! It's the 1st Annual Battle for the Belt!! Richwood vs Webster County at Camp Caesar!! All 4 teams will be competing to help the Highlanders try to become the 1st ever holders of the Belt!! Middle School Girls and Boys will run a combined race that will be scored separately at 4:30 and High School Girls and Boys will do the same right after that! Come out and kick off Wagon Wheel Week with the Battle for the Belt!!

The Highlander Cross Country teams got up early this morning and traveled to St Mary's for the 2026 Autumn Classic! After the fog burned off the heat cranked up and it became a great day for racing minus a little mud from the last weeks rain.

The High School Girls kicked off the day with Sophie Skidmore setting the pace for the Highlanders as she came in 55th setting a new 5k PR of 22:48.71! Sydney Adkison was next for WCHS in 119th with a time of 25:31.38 setting her high school PR. Izzy Hinely was next in 217th with a time 46:28.97 setting her PR as well!

The next race was the High School Boys and 8 boys were in this one for WCHS. Spencer Baird led the way for Webster finishing 125th with a time of 20:34.14. Cullen Brown had a great start before rolling his ankle and losing pace a little to finish 152nd with a time of 21:31.26 and a new PR. Asher Lawson followed Cullen in for 153rd with a time of 21:32.20 setting a new PR. Joston Lewis came in next for the Highlanders in 168th with a time of 22:05.80 topping his time at the same race last year by 18 seconds! Brylan Clayton came next in 186th with a time of 22:45.94. Kasey Farmer came in 219th with a time of 25:43.35. Ryatt Bennett was 221st with a time of 25:59.19. Jeremie Cogar came in 234th with a time of 29:02.69. The boys finished amongst Single A teams and 25th overall!!

The middle school girls were next with 3 girls running their first ever race! Kadance Adkins led the way with 135th place and a time of 16:27.67 in her first ever race! Jenna Lewis was next in 205th with a time of 18:52.88 in her first race ever! Keegan Clark was next in 234th with a time of 21:49.56 in her first ever race. Brooklyn Blankenship also lined up with the girls but a mid race issue prevented her from finishing the race.

The lone boy for the WCMS team was Martin Miller who finished 214th with a time of 16:40.82 in his first ever race!!

The Highlanders will be in action again this Wednesday August 26th at Camp Caesar against Richwood!!!

Webster County!! This year you will have 2 opportunities to come out and support your WCHS and WCMS Cross Country teams in Webster County!!

Kick off Wagon Wheel week on Wednesday August 26th at Camp Caesar as you Highlander XC teams go head to head with the Richwood Lumberjacks in the 1st Annual Richwood/Webster Dual Meet! The Middle School race will be at 4:30 and the High School race will follow shortly after. This smaller meet will give you a great chance to watch your favorite Highlander runners on their home turf!

The second chance to come out and support your WCXC teams will be at the Big Ditch Lake Invitational on Tuesday September 15th, where they will compete against teams like Braxton, Calhoun, Nicholas, and Richwood just to name a few. These kids work incredibly hard and would love to see the community show up at one of these 2 events to support them!!

Today's Cross Country practice is at Camp Caesar! We will be starting at 4:30! This is gonna be one of the fun, can't miss practices!

We are back outside at Big Ditch Lake today! It will be good for us to get back out in the elements after 2 days in the school!! 4:30 at Big Ditch Lake!
