(Duluth, Minn., July 10, 2026, 12:00 pm CT) – The USDA Forest Service is closing public access to the three wildfire areas within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) to protect public health and safety. Current wildfire areas closed are: Bear Trap, Thumb and Wolfpack, all located in the LaCroix Ranger District on the Superior National Forest, in St. Louis County.
Forest Order Number 09-09-06-26-07 effective July 11, 2026, temporarily closes the following areas within the BWCAW due to active wildfires. For maps and more information, visit: https://fs.usda.gov/r09/superior/alerts
The following BWCAW entry point numbers and associated recreation sites and trails are closed due to the public due to the Thumb, Wolfpack, and Bear Trap Wildfires:
