If workouts leave you with tweaked joints, body aches, pain, or make you feel like you’ll never quite have perfect form, you're not alone, and it's fixable.
Sidebar: A little soreness in the belly of your muscles for a day or two is normal.
Stuff in your joints—NOT normal.
I’ve been helping people move better for 33 years, and I see this all the time.
I just worked with someone who’s been dealing with pain during workouts—even though she tells me her instructor is very focused on form.
That’s the problem.
Knowing “form” isn’t the same as understanding how a human body should move in real life.
There is no perfect form.
What moving well looks like in your body will be different than mine. What my body needs to lunge well could be very different than what yours needs.
That's not only determined by the shape of your body, length of your limbs, how mobile or stable you are, but also by your nervous system's status in that moment.
When coaching is only about form, it tries to fit you into a mold that wasn’t made for you—and ignores the current state of your nervous system.
That’s when workouts feel awkward, and you end up with a tweak in your low back, knee, or shoulder.
That's not something to push through.
Sometimes it's about adding props to help your nervous system feel safer so it allows you to move in the right places, and sometimes the exercise selection just isn't what your body needs, and there are better exercise choices for you.
That's very difficult to coach in a normal fitness class—even if you have the experience to know the difference between form and real-life biomechanics.
That’s why my classes will always be small.
I won’t expect you to fit yourself into exercises. I adjust the exercises to fit you.
I'm here to help you move well—so you feel good doing what you love to do now and decades from now—not quick results that cost you healthy joints, energy, and the mobility to do the things you love long-term.
Fitness can't be achieved or maintained when your body feels like poop—no matter how toned you get.
If feeling good and confident in movement is what you’ve been missing, I’d love to have you in class:
