On March 23, 1975, a story in the Arkansas Gazette notified readers that earlier that month 70 of 73 people -- "an unusually large proportion of passing grades" -- had managed to pass the state bar exam.

It marked one of first times the name of William Asa Hutchinson appeared in the pages of one of Arkansas' two major newspapers.

Thirty-nine years, nine months and 21 days later, a 64-year-old Hutchinson would be inaugurated as Arkansas' 46th governor.
