SAGINAW PHOENIX RISING: Always great to see a new football program develop and prosper and that is what is happening at Saginaw United, as the Phoenix enters their third full season on the gridiron.

They look to improve on a 2-7 record in 2025. Here is a gallery of pictures as they prepare for the season. The squad hosts Bay City Western for the season opener on August 27. Here's to a great 2026-27 season United and all MHSAA teams.

The Lady Cardinal’s 12u chilling out in the misting cooling station before the USA Pride Summer Classic Softball Tournament 12u championship game. They chilled out, but their bats stayed hot to go on and win the championship.

MILLINGTON BATTLES TO EXTRA INNINGS BUT FALLS IN SOFTBALL QUATERFINAL: The regional champion Millington Cardinals fought hard but fell to New Lothrop 3-2 in 10 innings in the MHSAA Division 3 softball quarterfinal Tuesday evening at Mott Community College.

While today’s score was not what the team hoped for, it was an incredible season for the Cardinals who finished with a 27-16 record and made their school and community proud. Click the collage to see some pictures from the game.

MICHIGAN CELEBRATES SPECIAL OLYMPICS SUMMER GAMES: No sporting event can compete with the Special Olympics in terms of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and pure joy. These pictures were taken Friday at the 2026 Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) Summer Games at CMU. About 2,500 athletes from the thumb and across the state participate in this annual event. THE FREELAND FALCONS ARE STATE CHAMPIONS! The Freeland Falcons boys varsity basketball team defeated Hudsonville Unity Christian 42–32 on Saturday to capture the MHSAA Division 2 Boys Basketball State Championship. This is the first basketball state title in Freeland's history.

Congratulations to the players, coaching staff, and the entire Freeland community. Winning a state championship takes more than just putting points on the scoreboard—it takes the unwavering support of a proud community standing behind its team. This victory belongs to the entire community.

KINGSTON GIRLS CLAIM REGIONAL BASKETBALL CROWN: Congratulations to the Kingston Cardinals, the 2025-26 MHSAA Region 32 Girls Basketball Champions.

The Cardinals topped the Deckerville Eagles 47-43 in a nail-biter that saw multiple lead changes throughout. The game also featured a milestone for Kingston senior Molly Walker who scored the 2,000th point of her high school career. Congratulations, Molly.

Undefeated Kingston (26-0) moves onto the Division 4 quarterfinal against the 25-1 Morenci Bulldogs at West Bloomfield High School on March 17th. Tip-off is at 6:00PM. Go Cardinals! Click the collage to see a gallery of pictures from the championship.

REESE ROCKETS CAPTURE DISTRICT TITLE: In a defensive battle, the Reese Rockets edged Michigan Lutheran Seminary 31-28 in Vassar on Friday to win the 2025-26 MHSAA District 95 varsity basketball title.

With the win Reese advances to Cass City regional vs. the Burton Bendle-International Academy of Flint winner. Good Luck Rockets!

GREAT HOCKEY HAPPENINGS AT SAGINAW'S HOYT PARK: The great volunteers at Saginaw‘s beautiful Hoyt Park sent a valentine to the city today by coordinating a wonderful pond hockey tournament and of course, the great tradition that is the winter Outhouse Race.

While I could not make it to the latter, I was able to swing by for an hour of pond hockey tournament action Saturday morning. Here are 99 pictures of Saginaw people getting together to share the ice and a great time.
