We assume sports automatically teach leadership, but experience isn't the same as instruction. Just like teaching a serve or a pass, communication, accountability, and handling adversity need intentional coaching. Are we truly teaching leadership, or just assuming it happens?

A little shameless self-promotion today…

As a coach, I’ve spent years helping athletes perform better.

As a dad, I’ve spent years wishing more young people were actually taught leadership.

Not the title. Not the position. The skill.

Over the years, I’ve worked with a lot of talented athletes. What separates many of them isn’t talent, athleticism, or even work ethic. It’s things like communication, confidence, accountability, decision-making, and the ability to handle adversity when things don’t go according to plan.

The problem is that we rarely teach those things directly.

That’s what led me to create Leadership 101, an 8-week summer course for athletes ages 13-18.

It’s designed to help young athletes become better leaders, teammates, communicators, and decision-makers, both in sports and in life.

I know summer schedules can be chaotic, so all of the live sessions are recorded and available for later viewing. Athletes also get a full year of access to the course materials.

The cost is $60, and to keep the live sessions interactive, enrollment is limited.

Honestly, it’s the type of course I wish existed when I was growing up.

Most families research refrigerators more than the coaches who will spend hundreds of hours with their child. While athletes prep for tryouts, families should prep to evaluate the club. Does the club's approach fit your athlete's needs? Find the right fit, not just a team.
