A pile of dirt and a whole lot of pride.
Today, the first 21 tons of new infield mix arrived at the UCHS Baseball Field. After seeing it, we knew one load wasn't going to be enough, so we ordered another 21 tons.
Soon, 42 tons of new infield mix will be laser-graded to create a safer, smoother, and more consistent playing surface for our athletes.
None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our baseball families, volunteers, and community members who have spent countless hours restoring and beautifying our field over the past several weeks.
This project has never been about making our field look like everyone else's.
It's about building a field that reflects the pride, work ethic, and tradition of Union City Baseball.
The finish line is in sight, and we can't wait to share the final transformation with everyone.

Great morning. Great energy. Great group.
We are building something special with Union City student-athletes showing up early and putting in the work.
Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning from 6:20–7:35 AM, we have athletes training in the UCHS weight room and choosing to get better before most people even start their day.
Go to bed early.
Wake up early.
Win while the competition is sleeping.
This is where toughness is built.
This is where discipline is built.
This is where confidence is built.
Everyone is invited to attend. If you want to get stronger, faster, tougher, and better—show up.
No excuses. No shortcuts. Just work.
Proud of this group and excited to watch it continue to grow.

501 Builders-Field of Dreams Project-Day 3
Another incredible morning at the UCHS Baseball Field!
In less than 90 minutes, our growing team completed the entire third-base line and the outfield edge of the infield. Even the rain held off just long enough for us to finish the job!
What makes this project so special isn't just the transformation of the field, it's watching moms, dads, sons, teammates, and coaches come together with one purpose: to restore and beautify the home of Union City Baseball.
A huge thank you to Adam, Sarah, Isaiah, Gatlin Cotter, John O'Connor, Josh Plessinger, Jesse, Jet, and Jack Thacker, Logan Besser, Jerrico, Yadier, Joey, and everyone who rolled up their sleeves this morning. Your time, hard work, and pride in our program are making a lasting impact.
The before and after transformation has been incredible, and we're not finished yet.
Our next major step is coming in early September, when we'll spread 21 tons of new infield mix and laser-grade the entire infield to create the best playing surface possible. That will be our biggest work day yet, and we'll be inviting our entire baseball community to be part of it.
If you haven't been able to join us yet, don't worry, there will be more opportunities throughout the rest of August. We'd love to have you be part of this project.
This isn't just about improving a baseball field.
It's about building pride.
It's about serving others.
It's about leaving something better for the next generation of Union City baseball players.

501 Builders-Field of Dreams Day #3
A week ago, a handful of dads, sons, and coaches came together and completely transformed our first-base line. The before-and-after photos reminded us that when people care, great things can happen.
Now it's time for the next chapter.
Saturday, August 15
8:00–9:30 AM
UCHS Varsity Baseball Field
This week we've rented sod cutters, and our goal is to restore the third-base line and the outfield edge of the infield. It's one more step toward creating a playing surface that our players, families, and community can be proud of.
If you've ever played on this field, watched a game here, had a son or grandson wear the Union City uniform, or simply believe in investing in our kids, we'd love to have you join us.
No special skills are needed, just a willingness to help.
Bring a pair of work gloves if you have them, and come spend part of your Saturday morning helping us leave this field better than we found it.
Together, we're not just restoring a baseball field.
We're building pride.
We're building memories.
We're building the future of Union City Baseball.

Another step is complete.
This morning, something pretty special happened at the Union City Varsity Baseball Field.
Three dads, three sons, and Coach Wendel came together with one goal: leave the field better than we found it.
Together, we restored the first-base line, removing years of built-up grass lip and giving our field a cleaner, safer, and more professional look. The before-and-after photos tell the story.
This is just the beginning.
Next Saturday, we'll tackle the third-base line and continue restoring the beauty of our baseball home, one project at a time.
A heartfelt thank you to Josh Plessinger, John and Jacob O'Connor, and Jesse, Jet, and Jack Thacker for donating their Saturday morning and working like champions. Your efforts are already making a difference for every player who will wear a Union City uniform in the years ahead.
This field doesn't belong to one coach or one team.
It belongs to our baseball community.
And today, that community got a little stronger.

The 501 Builders are back at it!
Tomorrow morning (Saturday, August 😎 we'll be back at the UCHS Baseball Field from 8:00–9:30am continuing our Field of Dreams Project.
Every shovel of dirt, every fresh edge, and every improvement brings us one step closer to creating a field our players and community can be proud of.
If you're out and about Saturday morning, stop by and check out the progress. If you'd like to lend a hand, we'd be glad to have you, whether it's for 15 minutes or the entire morning.

A great baseball field doesn't happen by accident. It happens because people care.
Tonight we're beginning the first phase of restoring the Union City Varsity Baseball Field. Over the coming weeks, we'll be improving the playing surface, reclaiming the infield, and making our field something our players and community can be proud of.
We'll be working tonight from 6:30–8:00 PM. If you'd like to stop by, say hello, or lend a hand for a little while, we'd love to have you. Whether you can give 20 minutes or a couple of hours, every bit helps.
This field belongs to generations of Union City baseball players. Together, we're going to leave it better than we found it.

The greatest tribute we can pay Brad is choosing to treat people the way he treated people.

“He was one of the good guys.”

Today I learned more about Lynn, Ind. Town Marshal Brad Fisher who was killed in the line of duty this week.

His funeral is Sunday.

I learned when Fisher wasn’t serving his community in law enforcement, he spent a lot of time at the ball field in his other blue uniform. He was a well-respected local high school baseball umpire. ⚾️

I've only been blessed to know Brad Fisher for the last three years, but it didn't take long to understand why he was so respected.
As a baseball coach, you quickly recognize the difference between someone who simply wears the uniform and someone who truly serves the game. Brad was one of those special umpires. He was fair, consistent, professional, and treated players, coaches, and fans with respect. At our district coaches' meetings, when we nominated Umpire of the Year, Brad's name was always among those receiving votes. That wasn't because he was popular, it was because he earned the respect of the coaches who competed against one another every spring.
Today, our Union City Indians Baseball family has an opportunity to honor a man who gave so much to our communities and to the game we love.
If you're able, I invite you to join us at Carts and Parts as Brad's procession passes through Union City. Please park along Lennox Ave behind the building and walk to the showroom parking lot. Together, we'll stand in respect for Brad, his family, and the countless law enforcement officers, firefighters, first responders, and community members who will accompany him on his final journey home.
The game of baseball teaches us to respect the uniform. Today, we honor a man who wore more than one uniform with dignity, humility, and honor.
Rest easy, Brad. Thank you for making our game better and our community stronger. You will not be forgotten.

OPEN FEILD TODAY.
One of the biggest differences between average teams and championship teams isn't speed, it's how they run the bases.
This Wednesday, July 29, from 6:30–8:15 PM, we'll break down the fundamentals of our Elite Pressure Baserunning System for all Union City baseball players entering grades 4–12.
Players will learn:
• Elite leads
• Reading pitchers
• Timing and anticipation
• Explosive first movement
• Creating pressure on the defense
• The details that turn base runners into game changers
Championship teams don't wait for opportunities, they create them.
Dress Code:
Baseball pants are required. No shorts.
Come dressed for success and ready to work.

The smallest details often make the biggest difference. We look forward to helping our players become smarter, more confident, and more aggressive on the bases.
