This is a post difficult to make for the athletics department at UHS. As the 2022-23 school year and athletic season comes to a end, we would also like to say goodbye to our amazing AD Stephen Summers. He has changed the way we view sports here at UHS where he spent countless hours to improve our athletics. While in the AD position the UHS athletics department hit many milestones. During the 2021-22 school year our Boys Soccer team brought in the first League Title in program history, Baseball won the NCS D2 Title. During the 2022-23 school year UHS brought in 15 titles in total. This included:
Scholastic Champions: Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Volleyball, Girls Basketball, Girls Soccer, and Ukiah High School Baseball
NBL Championship: Boys Cross Country (undefeated), Boys Soccer (back-to-back), Girls Soccer (First Ever League Win), Boys Basketball (First time in 20 years), Boys Wrestling (3 Pennants, NBL league tournament champions, NCS Division 2 Redwood Empire Dual Team Champions, and finished 2nd at the NCS Championship Tournament, placing higher than any other public school in the North Coast Section), Boys Golf, Softball (undefeated)
We at UHS would like to say thank you. Thank you for your countless hours of helping our community, school, coaches and student-athletes. We will miss having you around. Once a Wildcat, ALWAYS a WILDCAT!
Mr. Summers- "I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you. Just over three years ago on March 15, 2020 (not even a year into my first year as Athletic Director at Ukiah High School) I sent an email to every coach in the school. Below is a quote from that email:
"This is a difficult time for all, given the amount of time and effort that goes into preparing for a season. Ultimately, sometimes there are situations, big and small, we cannot control and I believe as a coach these are the times our jobs mean the most. We need to lead from the front and share compassion with our kids. We may not be able to control this situation but we can control our reaction to the situation."
