Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our awareness and support for Glioblastoma brain cancer this year! It was a little breezy, to say the least…. Only 40 mph gusts 😳🤣 Jodie was looking down laughing for sure!

Follow these signs tomorrow along our route… and watch out for traffic! 🦌

TOMORROW IS RACE DAY! Not yet registered? There's still time! See the link below to register.

HERE'S WHAT REGISTRANTS NEED TO KNOW:

~The second annual Jodie-Schmahl Olson Memorial 5K run/walk will take off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30th! Please arrive by 8:45 to allow time for check-in and bib retrieval. You can grab your participant swag from the Check-In table either before or after the walk/run. Each participant will receive a water bottle with the JSO5k logo on it, a drink ticket for Castle Danger Brewery, a Dairy Queen token, and a JSO5k sticker.

~When the race begins, runners will embark first and walkers will follow. Please look for the appropriate sign at the starting line, depending on whether you plan to run or walk the route. If you plan to run AND walk, you can line up at the end of the running section.

~The event hub is Agate Bay/the breakwall in downtown Two Harbors. There is plenty of parking available! The route is an out and back route, so we will be running/walking along the paved Sonju Trail along Lake Superior, and then turning around and returning on the same trail to the finish line (at Agate Bay.) The halfway point (turnaround point) is near Burlington Road on Hwy 61 (see map below.) We do not have a pace leader, but there will be plenty of signs along the trail guiding your way. Just follow the 5k logo! You'll see the lovely Erin & Noelle cheering you on along the way, and the lovely Joni and Sarah will be at the turnaround point to guide you and cheer you along as well.

~Since this is an out and back route AND it is a public trail, please be courteous of other walkers. Please stay to the right of the trail and allow room for others to go by.

~This is an untimed event (unchipped bibs) BUT there will be a timeclock at the finish line for you to note your own personal achievements.

~There are pit restrooms at Agate Bay/the breakwall (start and end point) and porta potties at Burlington Bay along the route.

~There will be a water station set up at Burlington Bay beach to hydrate along the route... the fabulous Metzger girls, Karissa & Lucie, got your thirst covered!

~Refreshments will be available at the event hub at Agate Bay. Please feel welcome to grab a water or Gatorade before the run/walk and a drink and snack after the event. The smiling faces of Barb & Melina will be happy to hook you up (They both had birthdays this week, so throw in a Happy Birthday and maybe they'll let you take extras!)

~We will be gathering at Castle Danger Brewery after the event... they open at 11:00. We will have pizzas delivered for any and all who would like to join us there to remember the beautiful soul who this event takes place in memory of. Sunday (the day after the event) is Jodie's heavenly birthday. Please join us at the brewery and use up that drink ticket!

~I want to acknowledge, for those who are not aware, that we have endured another devastating loss since we gathered last year. Our dear friend Jackie (one of Jodie's very best friends of her lifetime) passed away in November. For those who participated last year, you would have had the privilege of seeing Jackie at the check-in table and hearing her one-of-a-kind infectious laugh. It was an unexpected loss after a short fight against illness, just like Jodie. Please remember Jackie as we come together and keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. She will definitely be with us tomorrow.

Please reach out if you have any questions! [email protected]

Thank you all SO much for joining us and making a difference for those fighting the fight against glioblastoma brain cancer!

Registration is now open for the 2nd Annual Jodie Schmahl-Olson Memorial 5K! Please join us on Saturday, May 30th, to raise money for Glioblastoma brain cancer. This is a run/walk event.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge a heartbreaking loss we have recently experienced. Our dear friend, Jackie Evans, just passed away on Thanksgiving. For those of you who participated last year, you would have seen Jackie at the registration table. She was an integral part of pulling off the first ever Jodie Schmahl-Olson Memorial 5K, and she was an integral part of our lives in general. We have experienced a great loss with the loss of Jackie. She was one of Jodie’s very best friends for many, many years, so we find comfort in knowing they can be together again now.

Please keep Jackie’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

The Jodie Schmahl-Olson Memorial 5K (Run/Walk) is on Saturday May 30, 2026.

If any participants or volunteers forgot to pick up your swag bags at the event, let us know if you want it because we came home with extras 😊

I have FANTASTIC news! Our total amount raised for the Glioblastoma Foundation from the 1st Annual Jodie Schmahl-Olson Memorial 5k is $6,032!!!!

This amount is going directly to the Glioblastoma Foundation to help fund their new genomic laboratory. This lab will offer full molecular testing of tumors, specifically designed for glioblastoma tumors. The lab will help researchers and scientists identify patterns that can help better treat glioblastoma patients, and it will allow for more advanced clinical trials of new drugs.

Thank you SOOOOO much to everyone who participated or donated to this event! YOU are all helping make a difference! Together we are helping others fighting against this horrific disease. Thank you so so much.
